Alexander Hammerstone vs. Jacob Fatu Is A Must for MLW

With nine defenses under his belt an MLW World Heavyweight title reign that just reached two years, Jacob Fatu has been MLW’s most dominant world champion.

His reign surpassed Low Ki and Satoshi Kojima’s eight defense runs but the time off because of the pandemic meant that there were some defenses that never occurred.

Think about: nine defenses in two years seems short—or the world of a champion who manages to skirt defenses. Fatu has never been one to run from a fight in MLW. Just point him at an opponent and he’ll smash them up in under 20 minutes.

The Eventual Clash: Jacob Fatu vs. Alexander Hammerstone

While Major League Wrestling has thrown several strong opponents at Fatu, the one person he hasn’t defended against is the MLW National Openweight Champion, Alexander Hammerstone.

It’s important to note this because Hammerstone crossed his 2-year streak last month. Not only that, he has twelve defenses under his belt.

Every bit the powerhouse destroyer that “The Samoan Werewolf” is, Hammerstone has also had some tough bouts in holding on to his title. You also have to factor in that he is constantly World Heavyweight title contender numero uno in the PWI Top 10 pretty much for the duration of Fatu’s reign.

Seriously, the guy has held the position for months of MLW Fusion episodes. He’s the contender and I believe most fans see this. Of MLW’s heavyweights, “The Meat Castle” looks like the best pick if the company wanted a face for the company.

A Potential Hammerstone World Title Reign

With MLW now rocking a show on Vice TV, the company will want to move forward with things. Again, the pandemic shaved off a few months of booking as owner Court Bauer had the safety of fans, wrestlers, and the crew in mind.

It’s not like MLW lost an entire year but looking at the company’s event schedule and how the weekly shows were produced and rolled out, it’s easy to see why these reigns are lengthy with few defenses.

Hammerstone is definitely in the picture as a future champion and with MLW’s slow-burn booking, it’s only a matter of time. However, Hammerstone’s reign is only going to be as good as his competition.

That means we could end up seeing an uptick in roster expansion leading up to that point. MLW has always had a smaller roster and they’re going to need talent for fresher matchups.

Hammerstone could face the exact same opponents as Jacob Fatu in a different order but in that time, everyone Fatu faced would need to have moved up the roster significantly.

My prediction for Alexander Hammerstone taking the title is in the last quarter of the year. It’s a very safe prediction but Fatu is running out of victims—contenders, sorry. It’ll be interesting to see how things develop for the growing promotion.
