Tonight on AEW Dynamite, we saw yet another defense of the IWGP United States Championship. However this time around, it wasn’t defended by Jon Moxley. He lost the title last week to Lance Archer in a brutal Texas Deathmatch, and suddenly things are seemingly being more accepted by NJPW. Hiroshi Tanahashi has called for Archer to come to Japan to face him in a title match, and this has Moxley pissed off.
Jon Moxley Sends A Stack Of Contracts To NJPW, Feels Hiroshi Tanahashi Has Been Avoiding Him
After months of calling out Tanahashi, Moxley felt very slighted that now he wants the champion to come face him. Moxley would reveal that he’s been trying to get to Japan to defend the championship, but NJPW seemingly doesn’t want him there. They’ll accept the Murderhawk Monster, but not Moxley. This hasn’t stopped him from continuing to reach out, and apparently sending over a ‘stack’ of contracts.
Despite this, Moxley is seemingly ready to go for this year’s G1 Climax. There are a few names out from this year’s tournament, with a major one being Will Ospreay and potential Minoru Suzuki as well. The wording of sending a stack of contracts to the company, and calling out Tanahashi for being a coward definitely hints towards something.
AEW Rep In The G1 Climax Could Be A Major Step In The Relationship Between Companies
With AEW having done some great work with their side of the deal with NJPW, NJPW can’t say the same. They’ve had Jon Moxley on NJPW Strong once or twice, and are bringing Lance Archer over to Japan, but that’s all we’ve seen from the deal in terms of NJPW. However, with the G1 coming up fast, they have a major chance to even up the scoreboard.
Fans in Japan would love to see someone like Moxley have another run, and he’s not got much going on in AEW right now. He’s been defeated too many times by Kenny Omega, and there are no other major feuds on the horizon just yet. A G1 run for Moxley could help to refresh his character after a long period of focus in AEW, and give some incredible matches.
