Jon Moxley has been the IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion for 557 Days now, and has recently started to defend the belt more and more. His latest challenge was a NJPW legend in Yuji Nagata, but tonight at AEW Fyter Fest, he’s got a whole other type of challenge. He is facing Karl Anderson, who is looking to recapture the singles glory he felt in NJPW nearly a decade ago. Anderson is ready to prove he’s not just a tag team specialist, and will do so while partaking in a favorite pastime… beating up Jon Moxley.

    Karl Anderson Will Ride Alone

Before the match started, Eddie Kingston would attack Doc Gallows at ringside with a pipe, driving him off. Moxley is now bald, and he’d drive Anderson into the corner and batter him down with some chops. They’d clash in the middle of the ring with some forearm shots, before Anderson hit a running uppercut off the ropes.

Moxley would be taken right into the corner, before exploding out and sending Anderson over the top rope. Anderson would not get any peace on the outside as Moxley chased him down, but this would allow Anderson to hit a suplex on the ramp. Moxley would fight back with some chops, before choking Anderson with a microphone cord and biting him.

Anderson would finally be thrown into the ring, and would use the high ground to hit a Stun-Gun onto the top rope & Single Leg Dropkick to launch Moxley to the barricade. Moxley would take a signature spinebuster, and kick out at two. Anderson went up high for the diving cutter, but Moxley caught him with a big right hand before taking him down with a superplex.

Jon Moxley Digs Deep Into His Bag Of Tricks

A release German Suplex saw Anderson roll to his feet and hit a single leg dropkick, before Moxley nailed a lariat. Moxley looked for a suplex, and Anderson nearly countered into the Gun Stun. Both men went for lariats, and they’d clash into a double down. Moxley would look for a Minoru Suzuki combo of Sleeper Hold into Gotch Style Piledriver, but Anderson fought free and used Giant Bernards sit out piledriver for a two count.

The diving neckbreaker from Anderson got a two count, and Anderson wasn’t going to give up the momentum as he looked to set up the TKO. Moxley slipped out and tried for Paradigm Shift, only to take a Gun Stun, but was able to roll into the ropes. Anderson was persistent and set up the TKO, before going to the super gunstun. Moxley caught him into a short arm clothesline and finally nailed Paradigm Shift for the win.

This was the match that everyone wanted in the end. It was a flurry of signature moves and heavy blows, and we had zero outside interference. Moxley is finally proving to be a good IWGP United States Champion, and it’s hard to imagine who can finally stop him. Match Rating: 3.5/5 (*** 1/2)

Who will challenge Jon Moxley next? Lance Archer is the answer. Following the match, he’d say that his reign started with Archer. Next week, he wants a Texas Death Match with Moxley on Night Two of Fyter Fest. Will Moxley accept? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
