Last night on NJPW Strong, we saw the final match of the 2021 Tag Team Turbulence tournament. This tournament was notable as it featured the return of former three time IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, The Good Brothers. They would make it all the way to the finals, with wins over Clark Conners & TJP as well as Yuji Nagata & Ren Narita getting them there. Stiff competition was waiting as they faced VLNC UNLTD members Brody King & Chris Dickinson, but in the end, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson managed to add to their already great tag team legacy.
Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows Keep Adding To Their Tag Team Legacies
While it was a hard fought match on both sides, in the end Gallows & Anderson would get their hands raised in victory. They now add the trophy to their collection, which also includes a 2013 World Tag League victory. Karl Anderson in particular also has a World Tag League victory in 2012 with Hirooki Goto, as well as the 2009 G1 Tag League with Giant Bernard.
After over a decade, he’s still one of the top tag team wrestlers in NJPW, having won tournaments with three different partners, as well as four reigns as IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champion, including a record setting 564 day reign. His legacy is getting very hard to deny, and it could only get better in the coming years.
Potentially The First Ever NJPW Strong Tag Team Champions?
If nothing else, this tournament was able to accomplish two things. It brought Gallows & Anderson back into NJPW with a bang, and showed that NJPW Strong has a decent set of tag teams. They arguably have a better group of tag teams than NJPW does in Japan, as they have more than four steady teams.
This could all lead up to NJPW adding in some United States Tag Team Championships, as they continue their plans for expansion in America. NJPW Strong already has an Openweight championship and the United States Championship, so their next logical step should be tag team championships.
Should NJPW Strong introduce proper tag team championships? Would Gallows & Anderson be good first champions? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
