Right now in AEW, one of the best storylines is that of Chris Jericho trying to get another one on one match with MJF. This has been a long burn storyline, starting with MJF infiltrating The Inner Circle by defeating Jericho, trying to destroy them from within, before debuting his own faction to destroy them head on. Despite his best efforts, MJF was unsuccessful, but what if that wasn’t the goal all along? What if instead, he was seeking to end the career of Chris Jericho?
The Labours Of Jericho Are Leading To Something Big
After some promos and exchanges, we finally got to the matches this past Wednesday at Fyter Fest. Chris Jericho faced fellow Canadian Shawn Spears in a unique match, where only Spears could use steel chairs as weapons. They built up a fun story and ended with Spears being run into a chair and nailed with the Judas Effect. Next up, Jericho needs to face deathmatch icon Nick Gage in a no rules match, and that’s next Wednesday at Fight For The Fallen.
With each match having a stipulation, we can’t expect the eventual match between MJF & Jericho to be a simple one on one affair. While Jericho teased a Lights Out match with MJF weeks back, there might be something more added to even that. At his core, MJF just wants to prove he’s better than Chris Jericho, one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. What better way to do that than retiring him?
With MJF picking the stipulations, it would be very easy for him to tack a “career threatening” condition onto the match when they finally meet, presumably at All Out. This would add some insane drama to this match, and truly make it satisfying if Jericho wins… or crushing if he loses.
What Could The Final Three Labours Be In AEW?
While we know the stipulation on the second match, there are still three more coming for Jericho. We know that the matches won’t be just a straight-forward run through The Pinnacle, with Nick Gage showing this. MJF can truly pull anything out of his sleeve for this, and there are some options; especially when considering the possibility of a retirement match at the end.
One is bringing in Lance Storm for a tag team match alongside Chris Jericho to take on FTR. Fans are wanting to see at least one more match with Jericho & Storm, and a reunion of The Thrillseekers ahead of Jericho’s retirement would be perfect. Another strong option is a match against Wardlow, MJF’s personal guard dog. It wouldn’t be hard to see this with some type of No DQ stipulation, such as a Last Man Standing match.
A final option that comes to mind is a simple but emotional one on one match between Jericho & his protege, Sammy Guevara. If MJF is truly in complete charge of booking these matches, putting these close allies against each other would be a great final mental blow to Jericho ahead of his final match.
