When Rhea Ripley won the RAW Women’s Championship from Asuka at Wrestlemania, she knew that a ghost from her past wasn’t far behind. A year before that win, Charlotte Flair outclassed her to become NXT Women’s Champion at Wrestlemania, and since then, Ripley hasn’t been able to get a clean win over her one on one. Their last encounter ended in a DQ, but tonight they have their third one on one encounter, but their first with a major crowd. Can the crowd give the edge to Ripley?
The Crowd Just Wants Becky Lynch
They’d lock up before Flair was forced to break it off. Flair would have the crowd get into her head briefly before Ripley blocked a boot and tripped Flair onto her face. There was a loud “We Want Becky” chant as they battled on the apron, where Flair was dropkicked to the floor. Ripley came off with a cannonball, before Flair dodged.
In the ring, Flair hit the exploder suplex into the corner, before applying a chinlock in the ring. Flair let the hold go to hit some ugly strikes, forcing Ripley to brawl back up. Ripley got a back elbow, before being fought into the corner. Flair went for a kneebreaker, before being sent over the top rope. Another “We Want Becky” chant came as Ripley nailed the cannonball off the steel steps.
A headbutt from Ripley rocked Flair, before hitting a low dropkick and northern lights suplex. Flair would hit a stun gun on the ropes before looking for the O’Connor Roll. Ripley blocked and hit a German Suplex, sending Flair onto her head. She’d come off the top with a dropkick, but Flair blocked and got the Boston Crab. Ripley countered into a pinfall, and they’d trade control.
Charlotte Flair Shows Why She’s The Queen
Flair would be contorted into a vertical suplex, with Ripley showing some absolutely insane power in the process. Ripley was thrown to the outside, and Flair kept her there with a big boot. Flair went up top, and hit the moonsault to the outside. In the ring, Ripley blocked Natural Selection and applied the Prism Lock.
Flair countered into a rollup, before Ripley set up Riptide which was countered into a DDT. They’d trade blows in the middle of the ring, Flair with chops and Ripley with forearms, before Flair took Ripley down and tried a pin with feet on the ropes. She’d be caught, and taken to the top rope for a superplex.
Flair would fight Ripley off and nail a Super Natural Selection, and Ripley somehow kicked out at two. They won the crowd over by this point, and Ripley countered the Figure Four. Flair would drive the head of Ripley into the ringpost and caught her leg in the stairs. Multiple kicks crushed the leg, and Fight Eight was applied, forcing the submission.
Despite a wonky start and a stubborn crowd, Flair & Ripley were able to get their undivided attention as the action picked up. It rose to a fever pitch, and by the end Flair had the crowd eating out of her hand. Ripley put in her best performance since NXT, but Flair was in rare form tonight. Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
After the match, Flair would be able to make her way to the back without being interrupted by a certain lasskicker. Will Becky Lynch confront her old rival soon? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
