Last week, Dexter Lumis would be able to once again carry Indi Hartwell to the back, to the delight of their fans everywhere. However this week, he springs back into in-ring action as Lumis will go one on one against former NXT Cruiserweight Champion, Santos Escobar. Escobar is determined to reach either the NXT or NXT North American Championships, and beating Lumis is a fine step in that direction.
Dexter Lumis Shows
Escobar would step right up to the always stoic Lumis, and took him down with a shoulder tackle. Lumis popped right back up and spooked Escobar, before gaining some serious speed off the ropes and getting a Thesz Press. Escobar would flee the ring as Lumis crawled around, and he’d call for Joaquin Wilde & Raul Mendoza to get him.
Lumis instead crawled under the ring and tripped Escobar up. Mendoza & Wilde tried to make the save. Escobar would get free as Lumis popped out and spooked the entire faction. You always need to expect the unexpected with Lumis, and Escobar just learned that as we went to a commercial break.
Santos Escobar Gets Some Help
Throughout the commercial break, Escobar would regain some control and that continued as the show returned. Some quick and measured strikes would batter Lumis, and allow Escobar to hit a top rope hurricanrana for a two count. A sliding dropkick would punish Lumis further, before Escobar would hit some running lariats. Three amigos would be attempted, but Lumis countered the third, only to instead be hit with a backstabber.
Lumis came back with a quick lariat, before hitting the running bulldog. He was gaining steam and had the crowd firmly behind him as he’d look to apply Silence. Wilde ran a distraction as Mendoza saved Escobar. Lumis would be yanked into the ringpost by Wilde, and back in the ring Escobar planted him with the Phantom Driver for the win.
This was a solid back and forth contest, with Lumis showing some weird babyface fire. Escobar proved to be a devious heel, and Legado Del Fantasma with the numbers advantage is as deadly as ever. Match Rating: 2.5/5 (** 1/2)
Prior to this match, Escobar called out the NXT North American Champion Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott. This is a man he has previously defeated during his reign as NXT Cruiserweight Champion. After this win Hit Row would greet Legado Del Fantasma on their way to the back, is Escobar closer to a shot at Swerve? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
