Right now in NXT UK, WALTER has been NXT UK Champion for 832 days, and seemingly isn’t going to be stopped anytime soon. He’s beaten all comers, to the point where his next defense is a rematch against Ilja Dragunov. This week on NXT UK, they met face to face in a heated confrontation, but we will be waiting a bit longer for the title match which was originally set for next week.
WALTER Suffers Injury To Left Hand In Backstage Brawl
This match has been rescheduled due to an injury. WWE themselves announced that WALTER is suffering from a severe injury to his left hand, and has been deemed unfit to compete. It was done on camera during a backstage brawl, However WWE isn’t about to end this lengthy reign with WALTER vacating the championship over a minor injury, and the match is simply being rescheduled.
There is a chance that this is all just a ruse to ensure this highly anticipated match takes place in front of an actual crowd. Currently tapings are done behind closed doors at BT Sports Studios, and NXT UK are very close to being able to run shows again. COVID-19 restrictions end on July 19th in the UK, and we could see NXT UK throw together a Takeover event around this match.
Could This Match Happen On The Next USA Takeover?
There is also the potential that this match doesn’t happen in the UK at all. WALTER won the belt in the United States at an NXT Takeover event, and we have seen him defend the belt on Takeover events since then. With WWE back on the road in the USA, we can assume the next NXT Takeover event will take place in Las Vegas alongside Summerslam.
While we could already have matches like Samoa Joe vs. Karrion Kross on that card, adding WALTER vs. Ilja Dragunov II to the card would only serve to make it even more exciting for fans. Either way, this match isn’t likely to take place behind closed doors. The hype is high, and there are options for WWE to get fans to see this match live.
