Last night on Smackdown Live, fans were surprised to see the return of Zelina Vega to WWE programming. Vega was previously released from WWE back in 2020, in the midst of WWE cracking down on performers using third party platforms such as Twitch or OnlyFans, which are two platforms Vega is active on. Her release also came on the same day as a now deleted Tweet, stating that she supports unionization. Despite all this, new reports show that some WWE executives regretted letting Vega go, which was a major reason she was brought back.
WWE Executives Pushed To Keep A Connection With Zelina Vega Following Release
While they were not named, there were some people backstage with WWE who pushed to keep an open line of communication with Vega following her release. It was said that both sides were able to come to a level of agreement and understanding about her being let go, which was able to blossom into a new contract. Apologies were even given to Vega in regards to her firing.
Vega has already been placed into the Money In The Bank ladder match by Sonya Deville. On Talking Smack, she would claim it was because “I’m just that good. I don’t need to qualify. I just am.” before going on to mention that she has unfinished business with the Smackdown Women’s Championship.
Previously in WWE, Vega was mostly used as a manager for Andrade and Angel Garza, but started to wrestle more frequently, challenging for the RAW Women’s Championship just before her release. It will be interesting to see how this run goes, and if she ends up winning gold.
Small Hope Of Aleister Black Return
At this time however, there is little hope of Vega’s husband, Aleister Black rejoining her in WWE. Despite being let go in the middle of a storyline which would have kicked off a run under a new character, Black has no current plans to return. He’s already signed a sponsorship deal with Hayabusa, a company which makes gear for various combat sport leagues, and generally unless you’re Brock Lesnar, WWE doesn’t want you having other sponsors.
Black has also already gone ahead and rebranded his various social media platforms back to Tommy End, and is currently expected to make his debut with All Elite Wrestling later this year. There have even been rumors that he is related to the ‘surprise’ that Andrade El Idolo has been teasing on AEW programming in recent weeks.
