AJ Styles struck gold when he brought Omos in as his tag team partner, and this came to play at Wrestlemania. Since dethroning The New Day, they’ve been near unstoppable. However, RK-Bro might have as good a chance as anyone to take the RAW Tag Team Championships from them. Randy Orton & Riddle have truly become a special team, and their combination of veteran skill and technical prowess might be enough tonight. Riddle has earned the respect of Orton, but can they earn gold?
Randy Orton & Matt Riddle Are On The Same Page, Overcome Styles & Omos
Orton & Styles would kick things off, with Orton coming in hot with some strikes and a vertical suplex. He’d stare down Omos, before tagging in Riddle to hit a big senton for a two count. Styles would head outside and show some frustration before tagging in Omos. This is the moment that RK-Bro didn’t want, and Riddle was rammed down with a shoulder tackle, before being lifted up for a delayed scoop slam.
Omos was able to hold up Riddle like a small child, and crushed him in the corner with a running back elbow. Styles tagged in and slipped over the shoulders of Omos for a big DDT. Riddle would try to use Styles being legal to regain control, only to take a backbreaker. He’d manage to slip free, but wasn’t able to make the tag to Randy Orton. Styles tried to hold Riddle back, but he’d get Orton in.
Orton was keeping Omos off his balance on the apron as he picked away at AJ with some signature blows, and his plan was working. He’d set up the RKO, but Omos pulled Styles to safety. Riddle tried to dive into Omos, but got caught in a chokeslam to the apron. Omos got greedy and wanted a powerslam, and got shoved into the ring post. Styles came off the apron with a Stylin’ DDT before looking for the Phenomenal Forearm on Orton. Orton would dodge, and get into position for an RKO, and with Omos down? It was done!
A very fun tag team opener, with Omos playing his role well while Styles made this one great with his skills. RK-Bro got a great reaction for their win, and this win might be what the tag team division on RAW needed. Match Rating: 2.75/5 (** 3/4)
