UFC: Colby Covington Says There Was “No Honor” In Leon Edwards Beating Nate Diaz!

Colby Covington expressed his characteristically unflattering opinion of some of his fellow welterweights this week. Trashing both Leon Edwards and Nate Diaz in a single blow, he declared his disgust with the pair’s recent bout on the Adesanya v Vettori undercard a month back.

Talking to James Lynch, Covington labelled both fighters “losers”: “I wasn’t watching these two losers fight.

Chaos: “no honor” in Edwards beating Diaz

Those guys were both coming off losses. ‘Edward Scissorhands’ lost by DQ by poking Belal Muhammad in the eye like three or four times and he was warned backstage.

He’s a loser, he’s coming off a loss so he’s got to build that winning streak. And it makes sense to fight another loser in Nate Diaz.”

Edwards v Belal Muhammad did indeed end in a no-contest, but Edwards has maintained his unbeaten streak since losing to Kamaru Usman way back in 2015. The decision win over Nate Diaz saw Edwards extend his streak to ten, including notable victories over fellow top contenders Rafael dos Anjos and Vincente Luque.

Covington continued:  “When was the last time he won a fight? I think Barack Obama was in office the last time that Nate Diaz won a fight. He’s a little white boy Soy Boy from California, washed up, just coming for a money grab and to get that cash.

There’s no honor in beating a guy like that, the guy’s 10 years past his prime. I could care less, the fans could care less, and obviously, the UFC could care less because that was just a little prelim fight that they put.”

While Edwards won that fight via unanimous decision, Nate Diaz made a serious comeback in the final round, rocking Edwards with heavy punches and nearly finishing the fight with a knockout. It was not to be, but performances like that from Diaz are precisely what makes him such a fan favorite. Meanwhile Colby Covington hasn’t fought since September 2020, waiting for a title rematch with Kamaru Usman.

Colby last faced Kamaru Usman in 2019, losing the fight in the final round to a flurry of punches. Usman’s TKO win cemented his spot as welterweight champion, which he successfully defended four times, while Covington has only fought once since, a win over Tyron Woodley.

Would you want to see Colby Covington take on Nate Diaz or Leon Edwards? Will he back up all this trash talk and finally take Usman out? Let us know in the comments.
