Right now, we’re on the doorstep of some potentially huge changes for WWE’s NXT brand. WWE CEO Vince McMahon has felt the brand has failed at it’s job of making stars for WWE, and now is taking matters into his own hands. The new directive of signing for NXT is bigger athletes under the age of 30, and less smaller wrestlers. This might have already led to WWE missing out on two future stars of wrestling.
WWE Passed On Talents Who Would Have Normally Fit The Brand Perfectly
In a news report from Fightful Select, we’d get some information from backstage in NXT. There were already concerns about things changing in NXT due to recent hiring trends. As usual, there were a handful of tryouts this year. A couple of names seemed like they’d be perfect for the brand, but were passed on. This served as a red flag for some in NXT as a sign of thing to come.
It’s not named who these “slam dunk” signings would have been, but it’s easy to speculate that it was Daniel Garcia & Wheeler Yuta. Daniel Garcia had a match on NXT earlier this year against the recently released Tyler Rust, and had a fantastic showing. Meanwhile, it was reported that Wheeler Yuta had a tryout for the NXT brand, and soon after he was showing up on AEW programming.
Daniel Garcia & Wheeler Yuta Are Proving Themselves As Stars In AEW
Even just two years ago, smaller wrestlers like Garcia & Yuta who are expert technical workers would have been instant signs for NXT. These two fit the same mold as names like Johnny Gargano, Finn Balor, Sami Zayn, and more. WWE not locking them down is a sign of the types of names who will have to look elsewhere moving forward. However in this case, like many others this year, this loss is a gain for AEW.
Wheeler Yuta has found a steady role in AEW as the protege of The Best Friends faction, and is getting more and more ring time. He’s also the reigning IWTV World Heavyweight Champion. Meanwhile, Daniel Garcia stole the show in the six man tag team match with Jon Moxley, Eddie Kingston & Darby Allin in the mix. This week on Dynamite, he has a singles match with Allin, which could be what gets him a contract.
These are the two names who make sense with the timing and recent changes. Do you think WWE will regret not grabbing these two young names? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
