The breakup of the Undisputed Era was mostly due to issues between Adam Cole & Roderick Strong, but once that brotherhood was done? It was done. Roderick Strong left NXT to get focused again as a member of Diamond Mine, and now is at the throat of Bobby Fish. These are men who fought together in WarGames, but tonight they meet in one on one action. This is a match that no one in NXT ever thought we would see, but it has the potential to be incredible.
Bobby Fish Shows He Has Lots Left In The Tank
Fish came out alone, but Strong was flanked by the rest of Diamond Mine. They’d lock up in the middle of the ring, and the grappling was going to be fast and furious. Strong forced Fish to the ropes, and after a break Fish would shove him to the corner before nailing the first strike of the match. A knee strike would stun Strong, before Strong came back with one of his own before applying a headlock.
Fish would roll this into a pinfall before breaking free, nailing some more kicks in the corner before hitting a snap suplex and a sleeper hold on the mat. Strong would grapple his way free, and they’d get stuck up in the ropes, before Fish snapmared Strong into the middle of the ring for a kick to the spine.
Fish would take a heavy chop before downing Strong in the corner, and choking him with his boot. Malcolm Bivens was concerned at ringside, especially after Fish nailed another big kick. As we entered a picture in picture break, Strong & Fish would battle on the apron, a battle which Fish won.
Roderick Strong Gets The Last Second Advantage
Back into the ring, Fish nailed a backdrop into the middle of the ring, before having a kick countered into a backbreaker. Finally with an opening, Strong got some quick blows in before Fish rallied back and got Strong down into the corner. A kick to the stomach stunned Fish once again, and they’d battle back and forth as we came back to full screen.
Fish would get a kick to the leg and Strong feigned an injury, before hitting a leaping forearm to get one over on Fish. A big kick to the back would punish Fish, before Strong nailed a suplex for a one count. Another backbreaker was let loose, getting Strong a two count, before nother backbreaker and the abdominal stretch. Fish would break free and hit some high kicks before a running knee in the corner.
The strikes of Fish have been deadly all match, and a sliding lariat got him a two count. A sleeper hold was attempted on Strong, who would break it by forcing them back into the corner before hitting a quick suplex. Fish would be hit with some running elbows before the facebuster got a two count, before rocking Strong with a roundhouse kick. Fish went to the corner, but this was a mistake as Strong shoved Fish to the floor. Back in the ring, a jumping knee and End of Heartache would close this one out.
The hype was big for this match when it was announced, and it was delivered upon. These two have a deep history, and their chemistry was clear from bell to bell. This was hard hitting, technically sound, and just deeply satisfying. Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
