Due to the sheer volume of shows over this past weekend, NXT UK fell by the wayside for many, including myself, but it is a show worth going back for. WALTER & Ilja Dragunov showed what the brand was all about, with an already critically acclaimed clash from NXT Takeover 36 being the talk of the industry, but there was two others titles defended this past week as Meiko Satomura & Pretty Deadly defended their spots in the Women’s and Tag Team Divisions.
Some Non-Title Action Sees Saxon Huxley Get A Major Win
However, like always there was some non-title action on display with this episode of NXT UK. Since the return to NXT UK in late 2020, Saxon Huxley has been consistently proving that he’s better than anyone has given him credit for. Despite this, wins have been few and far between, but a major one was earned on this episode as he defeated Eddie Dennis. It was his biggest win yet, and perhaps a sign of things to come. After the match, T-Bone & Primate helped to beat Huxley down, so this might not be done.
We’d also get some non-title action from the NXT UK Women’s division, as Dani Luna of SUBCULTURE took on The White Witch, Isla Dawn. This was a fairly unimpressive bout from two rather stale undercard talents, with Luna getting the win. Dawn had looked to be breaking out from the undercard earlier this year with impressive matches against Meiko Satomura, only to fall to a rookie in Luna on this episode.
Meiko Satomura & Pretty Deadly Defend Their Gold
The opening match of the episode saw ‘The Final Boss’ Meiko Satomura make her second defense of the NXT UK Women’s Championship. She won the belt from Kay Lee Ray on the June 10th episode, and on this episode would defend against a recent arrival in Stevie Turner. The 24 year old would hold her own against Satomura, but fell just shy of the 9 minute mark, as Satomura continued her reign.
This episode’s main event would see Pretty Deadly defend the NXT UK Tag Team Championships against what is possibly the brand’s most iconic tag team. Moustache Mountain has yet to win these titles, and would make another attempt to win them on this night. However, Pretty Deadly have been proving to be tag team prodigies, and had possibly their best showing yet as they shut Moustache Mountain down once again.
This also means Pretty Deadly beat the Heritage Cup Champion, Tyler Bate. Should one of them get a shot at singles glory on a future episode? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
