This one is seven years in the making, and has gotten highly personal. Back during the dyas of The Authority, Rollins made a threat on the life of the then retired Edge, and this was never forgotten. Issues flared up once again when Rollins seemed to think Edge jumped the line to a shot at the Universal Championship, kicking off a bitter and intense feud.
Tonight they finally clash, in what could be a match for the ages. Edge has claimed that Rollins is Edge-lite, gave him a Brood bath, and is ready to show that Edge should have killed him seven years ago. But this is a different Edge than we’ve seen since his return, a more calculated and evil Edge.
A Brooding Edge Is Here
Coming out to The Brood theme song in a ring of fire solidified that this was a different Edge, before blasting into his usual theme song. All in all, his entrance was the best thing on the show so far. Edge took the crowd in before punching Rollins in the jaw. Rollins was going for the neck already, but Edge was ready. He’d send Rollins to the outside, and Rollins was already losing his head.
He’d get in and get punched into the corner by Edge, and sent right back outside. This time, Edge would follow and keep the beating coming. Rollins finally got a blow in and hit him neck first into the ring post, and then the steel steps. Edge would take a neckbreaker in the ring, getting Rollins a one count. However, Rollins has him weaker and has the target. He’d drop him onto his neck with a Slingblade and set up for the Curb Stomp.
Edge would retreat to the ropes, before fighting back with some punches only to take a boot from Rollins and a flying knee strike to the head. Rollins would toy with Edge, and take his time setting up a neckbreaker before being caught with a backslide for a two count and a flapjack. A charge into the corner would catch Rollins next, before setting up a super backdrop. Rollins fought out with some back elbows and nailed a frog splash for a two count.
Another Curb Stomp set up, but Edge once again got out of the way. Rollins would pull him up, and look for a suplex to the floor. Edge would get the control and hit a neckbreaker off the top rope. He’d be unable to go right into the pinfall, but got to his feet first.
Seth Rollins Pulls Out Everything He Has… And It’s Not Enough
A flapjack onto the ropes and the Edgeucation would get a two count. Edge would get sent face first into the second turnbuckle before Rollins walked into a reverse slam for a two count. He’d go up top, but Rollins took him down into a superplex and went right into the Falcon Arrow for a two count! Edge would be once again set for the Curb Stomp, but Edge dodged, blocked a Pedigree and nailed a Glam Slam for a two count!
Rollins slipped to the outside, and caught Edge with a neckbreaker in the ropes before wanting a stomp on the apron. Edge dodged and hit the spear through the ropes and to the floor! He’d drive the face of Rollins into the LED ringboard, breaking it with the impact but Rollins still kicked out in the ring.
Edge was ready for the Spear, but Rollins was ready with a Pedigree counter for a two count. This was the same way he countered the spear of Roman Reigns years back. Rollins went high risk, looking for the Phoenix Splash but missed and took the Spear for a near fall! Edge would look for the Killswitch but took a spinning elbow and superkick to the neck before the stomp was set.
He’d flip and block before locking in the Edgucator, which we haven’t seen in a very long time. A crossface would be next, as he got Rollins into the middle of the ring. Rollins would be slammed face first off the mat before reapplying and having Rollins tap out.
This one was a well placed epic of a match, with two of the best wrestlers in the company. Add in a hot crowd, a great story and some great entrances? This one was the total package. Match Rating: 4.75/5 (**** 3/4)
