Former 3 Man Band members are set to clash tonight as Drew McIntyre meets Jinder Mahal. This was a match that has been set to come for a while, with it originally planned during McIntyre’s reign as WWE Champion. However, now it’s about destroyed motorcycles and swords, as well as Mahal and his lackey’s Veer & Shanky took away his chances at Money in The Bank. This should be a hard hitting match, if nothing else.
Honouring Some Olympions
Before this match, we’d get a quick moment with WWE hyping up two gold medal winners from the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games. Both Gable Steveson & Tamyra Mensah-Stock were here and honoured by WWE tonight. This was likely more than just a gesture, as they are both exactly the types WWE wants down in their performance center. Commentary noted that everyone would be making offers, but WWE can make the biggest offer of all. Could they be WWE bound?
Drew McIntyre Steps Past Jinder Mahal
Veer & Shanky were left in the back, with McIntyre set to now have Mahal all alone. Right out of the gate, he’d slam Mahal into the corner before running into a back elbow. McIntyre wasn’t phased, and would chuck Mahal across the ring before looking for The Claymore. Mahal slipped out of the ring and had McIntyre follow, only to take a Belly To Belly Suplex on the floor.
Back in the ring, Mahal would try to calm McIntyre down by saying they’re old friends, before hitting a thrust kick and taking control. Some knee drops near the ropes helped him beat McIntyre down, before applying a head and arm choke. A Glasgow Kiss would get the comeback for Mahal, before he’d nail four belly to belly suplexes in a row. Future Shock DDT would follow, and McIntyre would kip right up. The countdown was followed by a Claymore, and a dominant win for McIntyre.
Whenever Mahal was in control, it was like the air was sucked out of the arena. When McIntyre made his comeback, they still barely cared about this match. It was short, heatless, and could have just been done on RAW. Match Rating: 1.5/5 (* 1/2)
