Chris Jericho needs to beat MJF. He can’t move on with his career until MJF falls by his hand, with his three losses to the up and comer. However, if he can’t do it tonight – his AEW in-ring career is done. MJF accepted this challenge because he wants to be the man who ended Chris Jericho, and that is the plan tonight. Is this truly the end of Le Champion?
Chris Jericho Can’t Lose After That Entrance
We’d get a countdown clock, some classic pyro before we’d see “Jericho’s Last Match” and MJF’s music hit. Here to play Jericho down to the ring was the guitarist of some underground band called Fozzy, as the crowd sang along. It didn’t sound good, but it was a cool entrance in concept, and not as bad as Downstrait. MJF would wipe his arse with the jacket of Jericho, rip a sign in half before locking up in the ring.
Jericho would absorb a shoulder tackle, and come back with one of his own. They’d both go for dropkicks, before Jericho tripped MJF up and went for the Walls Of Jericho. MJF got an inside cradle, but Jericho kicked out. They’d brawl to the outside, and MJF would be brought into hostile territory before Jericho threw a metal post at him.
MJF would next be hit with a triangle dropkick, before ending up in the apron as he went for a baseball slide. Jericho would be punched out, and back in the ring MJF went after the arm once again. An armbreaker got a one count, before MJF hit a suplex, and bit the fingers of Jericho. Jericho would be able to hit a suplex to get back into this one, and hit some chops in the corner.
MJF Thinks He Did It
After being thrown across the ring, MJF would be able to hit a back elbow and stomp the elbow of Jericho. A headbutt and some chops followed before the Fargo Strut and some hip thrusting, before Jericho sent him over the top rope. MJF hit the Heatseeker Piledriver on the apron. Jericho would finally get in at a nine count, before MJF looked for an Asai Moonsault, missing and taking a pop up powerbomb to the apron.
Back in the ring, they’d throw punches in the middle of the ring, before Jericho would go for the double axe handle off the top only to take a knee to the face for a two count. The back of MJF was having issues, and he’d walk into an attempt at The Walls Of Jericho, and kick his way through just to take a Lionsault.
Jericho set up a hurricanrana on the top rope, hitting ten punches before MJF countered into a spinebuster. MJF would look for a superplex, only to be sent off to the mat and hit with a Codebreaker for a two count. Wardlow would hit the ringside area, with Jake Hager there to stop him. MJF used this brawl to use the bat of Jericho to smack him in the face, and hit a Judas Effect for a three count.
Jericho had his foot on the bottom rope, but Aubrey Edwards missed it. She’d get a second opinion from Cole Turner, and the match was restarted! MJF would argue with Aubrey and get rolled up before Judas Effect was countered into Salt of the Earth. Jericho would refuse to tap and moved into a roll up. Walls Of Jericho was next, and the hurt back of MJF couldn’t hold up. Jericho wins!
If it wasn’t for the career-threatening stipulation, this wouldn’t be a notable match. Jericho started with a bad entrance, and gave his best performance which tops out at good. It was too close to their last match, and had nothing new to really offer aside from the false MJF win. However, it told a good story, which is all it needed. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
