FTR are looking to become two time AEW World Tag Team Champions, but to do that wins are needed. A recent loss to Santana & Ortiz has them needing to get back on track, and they hope to do so against Dante Martin & Matt Sydal!
FTR Win The Clash Of Styles
This is the tag team debut of Sydal & Martin, and the veteran would start fast with a roll up on Harwood while he was talking to Tully Blanchard. Martin would follow his lead for a double dropkick, before being sent crashing to the outside by Harwood. Wheeler would chuck him into the steel ring post, before getting him back in the ring.
Martin is at his best when he’s moving, and FTR knows this. The second he was free of a chinlock, he’d bob and weave past FTR to tag in Sydal, who sent FTR to the outside. They’d hit a tandem dive to the outside, before getting things back into the ring. Wheeler would be down, but Blanchard would choke Sydal behind the back of the referee before feeding him into a Cobra Twist.
Harwood tried to sneak in without a tag, but was caught by the referee – who was compared to Judge Doom from Who Framed Roger Rabbit by CM Punk. Wheeler helped add pressure on the Cobra Twist before Sydal slipped out. Sydal went for a double crossbody, and Martin helped drop FTR with a dropkick after it was caught.
Martin would hit a high speed flurry in the ring, before fighting off a backslide and hitting a huge sunset flip for a two count. However, FTR would get into position and nail The Big Rig – getting the win.
This was a great clash of styles. FTR works best with fast paced teams, and you don’t get much faster than Martin & Sydal. However the hard hitting pace just works better when done by an expert group like FTR. It was a pretty simple match though, and didn’t go long enough to be better than good. Match Rating: 2.75/5 (** ¾)
After this match, Malakai Black would take the ring. In seven days, he gets a rematch with Cody Rhodes – who he dropped with ease last time. He’d call on The House Of Black, and say there is an enemy amongst them. Rosario Dawson was in Nightmare Family garb, and Cody Rhodes would make the save.
They’d brawl through the crowd, not wanting to wait for next week. Rhodes would be winning out, and his passion was back. A low blow to Rhodes gave an advantage, and we’d cut to commercial as they brawled. Who will win next week at Dynamite Grand Slam? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
