Bryan Danielson is having one of the biggest matches of his life. But one of his past trademark gimmicks is the yes chant that has disappeared since joining AEW. Bryan has been making the media roundup before his massive match at the Grand Slam event in New York. There has been a lot of information coming out from these interviews, including why we don’t see Bryan use the yes chant when the fans do it.
What Bryan said to Rasslin on Brandon Walker Podcast
“I’m not doing it myself because I respect WWE’s intellectual property. I don’t think anything legally. They haven’t threatened anything legally. So I had a great conversation with Kevin Dunn with WWE before I debuted with AEW. I was very upfront with WWE about, ‘Okay, I want to let you guys know I’m leaving. This is my debut date’ and all that kind of stuff. They asked me politely to respect their intellectual property, even some of the things that couldn’t be legally enforced. So I’m trying my best to do that.”
Will this respect last?
It seems like there is a lot of respect between both Bryan and WWE. But now that Bryan is in AEW and fans are chanting, ‘YES! YES! YES!’ It feels like this respect may not be enough in the future. There is legally nothing stopping Bryan from chanting with the fans. The yes chant is one of the most over chants in wrestling, making it very likely that Bryan could change his mind on that chant one day. As currently, there is nothing stopping him.
