It’s time for more action from the B-Block. We’re into the middle of the tournament now, and have a hard stretch ahead. This is where tournaments are lost, and wins here put you in the right direction for a win. Let’s waste no time, and see who would get left in the dust.
EVIL & Dick Togo Go To New Lows
Kicking off the night is EVIL vs. Taichi. Fans have been less than pleased with the actions of EVIL & Dick Togo during this tournament, and have more or less just been silent during times when he’s in control. Apathy from a crowd is never good, but Taichi got them on their feet and excited. He’d try to counter the cheating of EVIL with hard hitting offense, but when close to a win – Dick Togo went to a new low. Miho Abe was attacked at ringside, setting up a low blow, STO and Darkness Scorpion for the win.
Up next was Chase Owens vs. SANADA. These are two technically gifted wrestlers trained by absolute legends of the sport, Ricky Morton & The Great Muta respectively. This meant this match was smooth as butter with the wrestling, but Owens isn’t scared to bend the rules to beat someone like SANADA. He’d get some close falls, but in the end fell to the moonsault. There was a fun comedy section with the Paradise Lock, as Owens failed to apply it.
Jeff Cobb is downright unstoppable here in 2021, having the best winning record in NJPW. Meanwhile, Hirooki Goto is thriving in tag & trios matches, but hasn’t won a singles match since the New Japan Cup. That wouldn’t change tonight, as Cobb just ran through Goto, brushing off his offense and throwing him into a huge Tour of The Islands. Who can stop someone like Cobb?
Can YOSHI-HASHI Finally Beat Kazuchika Okada?
After the intermission, Hiroshi Tanahashi would take on Tama Tonga. Tanahashi is in this tournament to not just prove he can still go, but to prove he can win again. Tama Tonga meanwhile is trying to prove he can lead Bullet Club. He’d take the fight to Tanahashi, and even try to use some of The Ace’s moves against him. This was a hard fought match, and a GunStun almost had it won – but Tanahashi took advantage of a weak pinfall for the flash finish.
Main Event time, and Kazuchika Okada has fellow CHAOS member YOSHI-HASHI. They’ve battled many times since their young lion days, and Okada has always won in singles. One is a faction leader and multi-time world champ, while the other just won their first gold in 2020. However, Okada always brings out the best in YOSHI-HASHI, and this 25 minute fight showed just how far he’s come. The crowd was all in on the underdog, especially during some close near falls – but The Rainmaker claimed another win.
Who’s Block Is It Anyways?
After this show – the point standings look like this.
Kazuchika Okada, Jeff Cobb – 6
EVIL, SANADA, Taichi, Hiroshi Tanahashi – 4
Tama Tonga – 2
YOSHI-HASHI, Chase Owens, Hirooki Goto – 0
