Tomorrow night, Robbie Eagles gets truly tested as the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, when he takes on Hiromu Takahashi one on one. However tonight, he will team with tag team partner Tiger Mask IV to take on the L.I.J duo of Hiromu Takahashi & BUSHI. Eagles & Tiger (now known as Flying Tiger) really gelled during the Super Junior Tag League, and a win tonight could do wonders for the confidence of Eagles going into tomorrow’s huge match.
Tiger Mask IV Gets Isolated
Eagles & Hiromu would start this match off fast, with Hiromu blocking a big armdrag attempt and avoiding all other major offense. However, Eagles would also avoid any early damage, before some trash would be talked. Hiromu would take a blind tag from BUSHI before rushing Eagles down, with BUSHI taking Tiger Mask off the apron.
Eagles would manage to fend off the two on one attack and tag in Tiger Mask, who soared in with a big crossbody and dropkick to take Hiromu out. Some quick kicks from both sides of Flying Tiger would take out BUSHI, before Tiger Mask took dual dropkicks from L.I.J. BUSHI would finally take his shirt off and use it to choke Tiger Mask, until the referee stopped him.
On the outside, Hiromu would steal the bandana of Eagles and would carry it into the ring as he worked on the leg of Tiger Mask. Alongside BUSHI, they cracked his legs with a wishbone, before BUSHI wrapped the leg around the rope before a dropkick. It was a focused attack, and would slow the legend down and make a tag to Eagles nearly impossible.
A lariat in the corner would be followed by Tiger Mask being rolled to the middle of the ring and hit with a dropkick. Hiromu did his homework and learned the Ron Miller Special, and would apply Eagle’s finisher in the middle of the ring on Tiger Mask. Tiger Mask would get the ropes and manage to launch off some classic kicks to put Hiromu down for a tag.
Robbie Eagles Shows He Can Match Hiromu Takahashi
Eagles was back in with a double springboard dropkick, before some mid-kicks and a running roundhouse. The running double knees would be followed by a low Tiger Feint kick to the knee, dropping Hiromu for another running knee strike. Eagles would head up for the 450 Splash to the knee, but Hiromu dodged. BUSHI tried to restrain Eagles, before Hiromu would run into his partner.
Eagles looked to apply the Ron Miller Special, but Hiromu kicked his way free before nailing a pop up powerbomb. Both men would look for tags, but only BUSHI would get into the match. BUSHI would hit the pendulum kick before a missile dropkick and the BUSHIRONI, before nailing a tight DDT for a two count. Diving to the outside onto Tiger Mask, BUSHI would leave Eagles to Hiromu briefly before coming back into the ring.
Eagles would dodge the rewind kick before applying the Ron Miller Special. Hiromu broke it up, before being taken out by Hiromu on the outside. Missile dropkick to the knee, turbo backpack slam, and Ron Miller Special was applied for a second time. Tiger Mask held BUSHI back, and this one was over.
All four men came to work tonight, with a lot of fast paced action in this one. Hiromu & Eagles showed some great chemistry, which is promising for their title match tomorrow evening. Tiger Mask didn’t do much of note, but played the support role fine. This is a skippable match, but a fun one that built hype for tomorrow’s match and got the crowd going. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
