NXT 2.0 is currently doing pretty well. With NXT getting some of the best ratings in a while. However, the current process of each episode feels very weird, and they’re definitely going through some massive growing pains.
One of these being the constant debuts of so many wrestlers over the past two episodes, making it hard to remember them all. Some debuts have gone well, like Bron Breakker, but a lot already feel like they’re getting loose in the shuffle with them all having a similar match where they squash the other opponents.
A mix of top stars and new
At the moment, most of the episodes of NXT are new talent that many watchers won’t really know. It feels like there should be a mix of both new wrestlers and old. The pick of Tommaso Ciampa as the champion is similar to how AEW did it. But knowing the fact that the next in line seems to be Bron.
Rather than another top talent seems like a misstep. In AEW, we’ve had many champions that the world already knows, like Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega. Going from Tommaso to Bron could really hurt the roster in the long run. With no other stars being built up. If they push Bron Breakker straight to the top and make him unbeatable. We may have an issue like early Roman Reigns. Long term championships but still going up against younger talent and putting them over in defeat.
Long burn of putting over new wrestlers
Then this could lead to the long burn of building a future star. An example of this would be Darby Allin, who wasn’t thrown into the main event straight away. But went against the other talent just starting out on a massive stage. Darby Allin went up against Chris Jericho straight away within the first couple of months.
It’s possible that Darby wouldn’t be the star he is in AEW today. NXT 2.0 also needs to bring out the originality of each wrestler and their skills. Make it feel like you’re watching different matches rather than a similar match every week.
