Pipe Major Scott, who happens to be a Pipe player for the Royal family, has spoken about how Queen Elizabeth II supported him after his wife was diagnosed with cancer in 2017.
Queen Elizabeth II Supported Her Employee Following His Wife’s Cancer Diagnosis
With his wife now in hospital, there were major worries over who would be looking after Scott’s children: Fearghas and Lilly. That is when the Queen stepped up to the fore.
Not only did she allow his kids to stay at Balmoral Castle, but she also made arrangements to ensure that his children were occupied by playing with Prince George and her other grandchildren.
That was something that he would remember forever. In an interview with The Telegraph, he looked back at the incident with fond memories. He said: “Kids are kids.
“They would maybe have a wee argument over a toy tractor, which was quite funny.” But it was not just the manner in which the Queen looked after his kids that left Scott feeling impressed.
He was also proud of how the Queen had responded to the hospital staff who had looked after his wife. And she made sure that they felt valued, which would allow them to look after Scott’s wife to the best of their ability.
He added: “One morning when I went to the hospital, the Queen had arranged for strawberries and muffins to be made up in a basket for the nurses.”
Despite the improvements that were made by Scott’s wife, the Queen refused to allow Scott back to work. This is despite the fact that there was a pressure on him to return.
And by intervening, she gave Scott some valuable peace of mind to ensure that he was fine. He continued: “People on the military side were conscious about me getting back to work.
“But the Queen said ‘absolutely not, it’s family first, you have as much time as you need to look after your wife.” The Queen often gets criticised for not using her role in making significant contributions to people’s lives.
But with stories like this on the horizon, it shows the manner in which she will go out of her way for her staff. And that should be commended.
