Queen Elizabeth II is looking to bridge the tensions that are growing on racial lines with news that the monarchy officially supports the Black Lives Matter Movement.
Queen Elizabeth II Supports Black Lives Matter
The Queen, for her part, has faced a lot of criticism over the way in which she has acted over her approach to racial issues. During Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, she raised several concerns over the conduct of the Royal family.
First of all, she claimed that there were worries over the skin color of her son Archie. Not only that, but there were also concerns expressed by Prince Harry over the racist remarks that Meghan had suffered online via social media.
But now the Queen is aiming to put things right. According to Sir Ken Olisa, who happens to be the Lord Lieutenant for London, the Queen wanted to address this issue following the death of George Floyd.
In an interview with Channel 4, he asked people to unite to address the issue of racism. He said: “The question is what more can we do to bind society to remove these barriers.
“It’s a hot conversation topic. “The question is what more can we do to bind society to remove these barriers.” There is no doubt that this is a topical issue.
Even Prince William has spoken out about the racism that has been going on in England at the hands of the national football team. In addition, football players such as Raheem Sterling have come out and thanked the Royals over their support on this issue.
And the Queen is also keen to play her part in it. He added: “[The Royals] care passionately about making this one nation bound by the same values. The answer [over whether they support BLM] is easily yes.”
But for all the enthusiasm, it would also make sense that the Royals issue an apology to Meghan over the ordeal she had to suffer. It is one thing telling other people what to do, but it is another when it comes to dealing with such issues closer to home.
Time will tell whether the Royals will ever publicly recognise Meghan’s concerns. Let us know what you think in the comment section down below. Remember to stay up to date with the latest news on TheOvertimer. Don’t forget to visit Screenstinger for great videos, news, and gameplay!
