The WWE continues to make news for all the wrong reasons as now it appears Vince McMahon is pushing Triple H aside so he and Bruce Prichard can reportedly produce NXT causing #RIPNXT to trend on social media.
As reported by wrestlingnews.co, Bryan Alvarez reportedly said that he heard from people in the WWE that McMahon and Prichard will be taking over production duties for NXT.
From Alvarez, “Like anything, anything can change, anything is possible but I talked a while ago about how we’re gonna have a new NXT. It’s gonna be like the old NXT. I have heard from several people now that when they go back to live shows, this is going to be a Vince McMahon-Bruce Prichard production.”
Not a surprise
While this is a shock to many of us, it’s something we should’ve seen coming for a while now.
The main reason comes from early on during the Wednesday Night Wars it was reported that if the ratings didn’t improve, then McMahon would take over control from Triple H.
While that didn’t happen despite NXT losing all but a handful of the head to head ratings, now that NXT is rebranding and growing their own talent and focusing on physically bigger talent that appears to have changed.
For example, their new brand design reminds me of the opening sequence from the 1990s skit show In Living Color, but it’s nothing new for the WWE to try a new design. It’s the product that matters, after all.
All of this is reportedly because McMahon wanted to get away from the dark look in what had helped set the brand apart from the others over the years and was a fan favorite design.
What’s next?
The biggest question many have is what’s next for their beloved NXT brand?
On Twitter, the hashtag #RIPNXT was trending, showing what fans think of this.
This was a surprise considering the WWE’s PR machine can get Raw and Smackdown trending the day before, of, and after each show airs, which really shows the power of the fans and their opinion on this matter.
It also brought up the question about what does this mean for Triple H.
While it may look like a slap in the face that he’s being set aside, it was announced before the pandemic that he was going to be in charge of expanding NXT and other duties.
This could simply be the next step in that process that was held up because of the pandemic.
The WWE has said for years that they listen to fans, but recent years have shown they don’t seem to, and fans are treating this as the death blow to a brand that was a breath of fresh air in the WWE shows.
We’ll get to see Vince McMahon’s vision fully realized on September 14, and that should be interesting. Especially since they’ll be pretaped so they’ll be edited to appear in the best light.
