The two night event of Glory By Honor was a high spot for Ring of Honor this year. They finally got back on the road, and in front of a rabid Philadelphia crowd for two nights of action. However, it wasn’t all good. There were some injuries suffered, namely to Jonathan Grehasm, Flip Gordon, and RUSH. Gresham has been cleared to return to the ring, Gordon’s status is still unknown, but RUSH has now been confirmed to be out for the rest of the year.
RUSH Undergoes Knee Surgery
On the second night of Glory by Honor, RUSH would team up with his brother Dragon Lee to take on Bandido & Rey Horus in a big tag team match. RUSH & Bandido were fresh off a world title match, which saw Bandido claim his first ROH World Championship. However, during the match RUSH would start to limp and really show signs of trouble with one of his legs.
While at first fans assumed he was selling for the match, as he would finish, things are worse than they looked. He had badly injured his knee, and it would require surgery. Ring of Honor would announce on Twitter that RUSH will now be out of action for the rest of 2021. There are some matches with him taped for ROH TV, but that will be all we see of RUSH in the ring for the rest of the year.
Potentially Extending His ROH Contract?
One interesting side effect of this injury is that RUSH’s deal with ROH was only set to last until the end of 2021. This was in-line with his brother Dragon Lee’s deal, as they both signed extensions at the start of the year. With RUSH being out of action for the final three months of this year, ROH might look to extend the contract of RUSH to make up for this lost time.
RUSH is one of the biggest stars that ROH has. He’s only been beaten twice in singles action, and is arguably their top heel. Without him, there will be a major void on their roster, and while Vincent is groomed to be a top heel, he wouldn’t be nearly as exciting. ROH are likely to do everything possible to keep RUSH & Dragon Lee both, but this injury could see RUSH stay with ROH until mid 2022, if ROH operates like WWE does with injuries.
