Back in early 2020, Flip Gordon won a battle royale to earn himself a shot at the ROH World Championship. He’s finally cashing in this shot tonight, as he faces Bandido for only their second singles match in ROH. Their first was done at a set of desperate tapings when the COVID-19 pandemic began, with Gordon coming out on top. He hopes to have lightning strike twice, and after being the one to get the winning fall during Champions vs. All-Stars, anything is possible. This is the first defense from Bandido, and hopefully not his last.
Flip Gordon Has Been Waiting For This
Bandido & Gordon are roughly the same size and style. Flip Gordon would take advantage early on, not looking to impress the fans but rather brutalize the champion. A suplex onto the floor would punish Bandido, before tearing at the mask and shoving him into the ring. Gordon has been waiting over a year for his shot, and he wasn’t wasting it.
Bandido shot back at Gordon in the ring, before being smacked down and taken outside. He’d throw Bandido face first into his title, before getting back in the ring and getting a two count. Gordon would grab a steel chair after getting frustrated. Two chairs and a kendo stick were taken out, but Bandido hit a dive to the outside. Bandido would follow up with a second, before hitting a twisting body press for a two count in the ring.
A ripcord into a crucifix would get a two count, but Gordon was back up and looking for Flip-5. He failed, but Gordon nailed a powerbomb, before being countered. An electric chair drop would follow, with both men taking a while to get back up. They’d trade blows in the middle of the ring, before Gordon hit a springboard tornado DDT for a two count.
Bandido Won’t Lose That Easily
Gordon would go to the top rope, but Bandido caught him and went for the moonsault press slam. This was countered as Gordon slipped away and hit the Kinder Surprise, a backflip flip and applied Submit To Flip! Bandido would almost tap out, but was crawling ever closer to the ropes, finally getting there to break the hold.
Gordon kept the pressure coming and went for Flip-5, nailing it. This is the move that ended their last match, but Bandido was able to kick out. Firing back up, he’d catch Gordon on the top rope for a moonsault slam, but only got a two count. Bandido would go for 21plex but took a superkick and huge kick, before coming back with a standing destroyer. One more go at 21Plex would get Gordon, and this was over.
A solid main event match between two fast paced wrestlers. They’re pushing Bandido hard as an underdog champion, and he played the role well tonight. Match Rating: 3.5/5 (*** 1/2)
Who will challenge Bandido next? EC3 would make his way to the ring. He’s in the top 3 of the World Title Rankings, and is ready for his shot. Brody King made his way down as well, before brawling with EC3. Finally, Flamita came down and took Bandido out. Who will the get his shot at Death Before Dishonor?
