Deiveson Figueiredo, former UFC Flyweight champion, is increasingly frustrated with Brandon Moreno. After Moreno defeated Figueiredo via rear naked choke in an upset win at UFC 263 (which itself followed a controversial majority draw at UFC 256), Figueiredo missed no opportunity to summon Moreno to the Octagon in an attempt to reclaim his belt.
Figueiredo told AG Fight exactly how he feels about Moreno, his change in personality, and why he deserves the trilogy fight.
Figuereido Blasts “Arrogant” Moreno for “Running Away” from Trilogy Fight
“He was a rogue. Now he is running away from the fight. He knows the only fight he’s going to sell is me and him.
He doesn’t want to lose the belt. He is now even more arrogant, more playboy.
I want the rematch and I’m going to show that I wasn’t doing well in the second fight. In the first fight I broke him in the fight, he shrank back to not get knocked out.
I gave the rematch and now he does a nasty thing like that? Why isn’t it time? Why doesn’t he have a fight in Mexico? What makes me pissed the most is seeing him pay at a loss and not wanting our trilogy,”
Moreno has himself expressed that he’d prefer Figueiredo to earn another win before returning to fight for the title. Perhaps the insinuation that Deiveson just isn’t good enough to fight for a UFC belt only months after losing it is what he finds so insulting.
“He had to be a man and assume the position of champion. I defended against him. He knows I won’t let go. I’m going to do the same as the first one, which was sick and I fought well. It became personal.
I don’t even like to look at his posts, it makes me nauseous. The will is to go out on a fight with him. It’s a two-wire stop, when it meets, it’s short-circuited, it’s on fire.”
Moreno has yet to defend his title against another opponent. He defeated Figueiredo on June 12, not even three months ago. Considering that, at the other extreme of the UFC’s weight divisions, Francis Ngannou will fight Ciryl Gane before Stipe Miocic gets his chance at a rematch, Figueiredo might be showing some impatience. Cody Garbrandt has repeatedly declared that he will run for the flyweight title, throwing yet another obstacle in the way of Figueiredo’s long-awaited trilogy fight.
