Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett is one of the UFC’s hottest prospects. He has yet to fight in the UFC, but the former Cage Warriors champion is promising fireworks in his promotional debut.
Pimblett told Just Scrap Radio that he expects to finish his opponent, Luigi Vendramini, in the first round. “In the first, I will be very disappointed if he gets out of the first round. I hope Luigi tries to strike with me because I will knock him out.
UFC Newcomer Paddy Luigi Vendramini Pimblett plans to “steal the show” at UFC Vegas 36, Promises First Round Finish
It’s nice people underrate my striking, everyone knows I’m a good grappler. I’ve been working on my striking for the past two years and people will be afraid when I start throwing hands and kicks.
If he wants to strike with me, I’ll knock him out. If he wants to grapple with me, I’ll submit him. It’s just wherever the fight takes place. I can’t wait to put on a show and steal the show.”
Pimblett certainly does not lack confidence. He openly admitted to taking a smaller purse to fight in a bigger promotion. Cage Warriors were paying “The Baddy” more to fight than the UFC, but the UFC offers the potential for a bigger pay day in the long run. Besides, if “The Baddy” delivers on his promise, he may well leave Vegas with an extra $50,000.00 performance bonus.
“Yeah, I am. It wasn’t to do with sponsorships, lad, it was my flat fee. My flat fee in Cage Warriors was more, but I will eventually get more in the UFC. It’s just one of them.”
Pimblett sees UFC stardom on the horizon, and he’s not the only one. No less a commentator than Michael Bisping compared the Liverpool native to one Conor McGregor, who remains mixed martial arts’ biggest star.
“It will be brilliant, people will love me. Everyone loves me or hates me, but no matter what, I put bums on seats and sell tickets, that’s the way it will be.
They are going to want me back ASAP.
I was looking at that October 30th Fight Island card, and I want on that. But, I have a feeling the UFC will be coming to the UK in December so, they might want to save me for then.”
Pimblett will fight on the undercard for the headline bout between fellow Liverpudlian Darren Till and Derek Brunson this weekend.
