Last week, Roderick Strong got some big help from Diamond Mine to take the NXT Cruiserweight Championship from KUSHIDA. He’s already set to make his first defense, seeing as Grayson Waller had the audacity to step up to Strong right after his victory. Tonight, Waller gets a chance to become champion – but might just be used by Diamond Mine to set an example for the rest of the roster if he’s not careful.
Grayson Waller Showed Up, But Roderick Strong Hits Too Hard
Strong was ready to go but Waller jumped Strong from behind in the ring. He’d be sent outside with a huge kick, before taking a dive. Getting a moment to regroup, Strong would re-enter the ring and show his veteran skill by being able to focus after being caught off guard. Waller would keep the pressure coming, and be able to hit an STO.
Strong would shove Waller over the top as he waited a second before a dive. Some hard strikes would drive Waller into the corner, before hitting one of his signature backbreakers. Strong would apply the Cobra Stretch, but Waller broke free and rolled Strong up for a two. Waller would take another huge backbreaker, before a camel clutch was applied.
Some more heavy chops would nail the chest of Waller, but he’d manage a huge dropkick. Taking control, he’d hit a big rolling elbow before a springboard elbow drop across the ring for a two count. Strong would be sent outside with a kick, where Waller hit a dive over the top rope before jumping into the ring through the bottom rope and nailed a cutter! Strong nailed a massive knee strike however, and it was a KO blow leading to a pinfall.
An impressive showing from Grayson Waller, but Roderick Strong was able to overcome the fight in the end. You give him an inch, and he’ll knock you out. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
