Next Tuesday kicks off a brand new era for WWE NXT. It’s no longer the Black & Gold brand, instead taking a brighter, more neon look. This comes with a new set for the Capitol Wrestling Center, and new theme song by Wale, who has topped the Billboard Hot 100 more than a few times – and is behind the vocals on the theme song of Big E. However, it could also be coming with a new name, as WWE has now advertised this as WWE NXT 2.0.
Technically Wouldn’t It Be WWE NXT 3.0?
When it comes to the history of WWE NXT, this is really the third time it’s been rebranded. It started off as a game show type show, which brought names like Daniel Bryan, Wade Barrett, and Heath Slater into WWE among others. However, this would die out and the NXT fans grew to love when it moved into Full Sail University under the guidance of Triple H.
This is the NXT that most fans will think of, the one that brought some of the best shows in company history with the NXT Takeover branding. The one that had fans chanting the names like Chad Gable during the Wrestlemania main event due to a show stealing performance the night before. However, this NXT was unable to top AEW – and has grown stale in recent months.
A Stacked Show For A New Era
They’re kicking off this rebranding with a big show, featuring a match for the NXT Women’s Championship with two powerhouses in Franky Monet & Raquel Gonzalez. We will also see a Fatal Four Way for a shot at the current NXT Champion Samoa Joe – which is filled out by LA Knight, Pete Dunne, Tomasso Ciampa, and Kyle O’Reilly. Any of those matches would be a huge main event with Samoa Joe. There’s also a wedding between Dexter Lumis & Indi Hartwell planned, which is sure to bring some chaos.
We could also be seeing the debut of Bronson Rechsteiner – son of Rick Steiner. He’s reportedly taken the ring name Rex Steiner, and will be carrying on a heavy legacy. Steiner is set to be part of the Diamond Mine faction, who just debuted a tag team of Brutus & Juilus Creed, who were a highlight with their high impact style.
It’s unclear if NXT is actually being renamed, or if it’s just a way to hype NXT for fans who were burnt out. Will you be watching on Wednesday? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
