There have been tons of rumors all week that the Undertaker will appear at this week’s Super Smackdown to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
The only problem is he hasn’t been advertised. Not that it means anything since at last year’s Smackdown anniversary he was advertised, arrived, and was told he wasn’t needed.
It was a slap in the face to him and the fans that paid to see him there, so maybe this one is meant to be a surprise?
In person or recording
The biggest debate online doesn’t appear to be about whether or not he’ll make an appearance, but how he’ll appear.
There’s little to no knowledge on whether he’ll appear live in front of the crowd or in a video package where he’ll talk about Smackdown being the first public show following the terrorist attacks.
We wouldn’t be surprised if we see both given how instrumental he was to helping Smackdown be a success, but the WWE sticking to a video package wouldn’t surprise us either.
Especially after the anniversary episode debacle.
Given the fluctuating ratings and this being the WWE’s big chance to get a substantial boost, we’d be surprised if the Undertaker didn’t put in some kind of appearance.
The problem is, if he was going to be there we think they would’ve thrown a lot of publicity around about it.
He’s needed
When sharing a piece of Smackdown history, there are two names that should be there if at all possible, and that’s the Rock and Undertaker.
Both were instrumental in helping establish the show and it’s even named after Rock’s catchphrase. But it’s not always possible with conflicting schedules.
And that’s where this one gets a little quirky since there’s been no official announcement Undertaker will be there, so this could all be nothing but something some sites started to drum up traffic.
On the flip side, if there’s any truth to it this will be a great throwback and we could see some brief action if someone attacks the Undertaker.
Not a full blown match or anything like that, but exchanging blows would be a good sight with a tombstone or chokeslam to close it off.
Do you think we’ll get to see the Undertaker tonight or is it nothing more than rumors? Let us know in the comments below.
