Last night, Bryan Danielson went to war with Minoru Suzuki in an instant classic that met the hype. Bobby Fish meanwhile got pushed hard by a rookie in Lee Moriarty – who proved himself. Neither man is 100%, but tonight they will clash for the first time on AEW Dynamite. CM Punk had a hard fight last night as well, but was smart and chose commentary instead of another hard hitting fight.
Bryan Danielson Survives Bobby Fish
These two wrestle very similar styles – lots of strikes and submissions in their games. Fish would run Danielson down with a shoulder tackle, before nailing a kick to the back. Danielson would get control and apply the surfboard, grabbing at the face and reminding the referee that has to five after a count on the foul hold.
Fish would fight back in with a kick to the chest of Danielson, before being sent to the outside. Danielson nailed the suicide dive, driving Fish into the barricade. While on commentary, CM Punk opted to just call his old friend “American Dragon” as he mixed the names up. Danielson wanted to hit the flying knee strike, but Fish cut his leg out along the way with a well timed kick.
Fish took some control with a quick dragon screw on the mat, but would take some time to play to the crowd. He’d keep Danielson in the corner with some smart strike – able to really focus in and bend at that leg. Danielson wouldn’t be able to fight out easily, with the referee having to free his leg. He got chopped down once more, and locked into a single leg boston crab.
Fish could turn this into an ankle lock, but saw that Danielson could turn that into a German Suplex. Danielson would fight with some strikes and a Dragon Screw of his own, before wrapping the leg of Fish around the steel ring post. Fish caught the kick of Danielson and hit a backdrop, with the knee caught causing extra impact.
An avalanche falcon arrow into a kneebar would cause some issues for Danielson. Danielson kicked free, before applying a heel hook in the middle of the ring to get the submission win.
This was almost a mirror match, and a second solid match in as many days from Bryan Danielson. You don’t often walk into another match after a 19 minute Suzuki mauling, but Danielson did. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
Speaking of Danielson, he’s in the World Title Eliminator Tournament. He will face Dustin Rhodes next Saturday in a first round match. Other first round on that side of the bracket is Lance Archer vs. Eddie Kingston. Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Orange Cassidy, and Preston Vance vs. Jon Moxley are on the opposite side.
