Eddie Kingston & Lance Archer are two of the hardest hitters in AEW, and this AEW World Championship Eliminator Tournament could have seen them as finalists. However, they will instead meet in the opening round. They will tear each other down, and the winner moves forward to take on Bryan Danielson.
This One Is A Fight, Not A Match
Before Archer even hit the ring, Kingston would hit him from behind. Archer is fine with a brawl, and was able to beat Kingston down, before chokeslamming some white haired fan onto him from the apron. Kingston threw some chops, but Archer shrugged that off as they got into the ring.
Archer would show Kingston a big chop, but took a poke to the eyes. Kingston got punched in the face and almost got hit with the Blackout, but was able to counter into a Dragon Sleeper before wanting the Stretch Plum. Archer was too big to be taken into the hold, and Kingston was sent to the apron before being kicked off.
Lance Archer Goes High Risk, Eddie Kingston Benefits
Kingston would take another overhand chop on the outside, getting fired up and hitting some of his own before a thumb to the eye. These two have really risked a DQ or no contest in this match, the second of which would just put Danielson in the finals. Another big chop landed, and Archer would be relentless. Kingston was starting to get rubber legs, and an STO didn’t help that.
Archer would go up top, thinking a moonsault press but an under rotation saw him land on his head. We’d again see Tony Nese sitting in the crowd, is this guy signed or just got a ticket tonight? Kingston lost his pace as Archer would get checked on. Archer didn’t want this to end in a stoppage like the G1 Climax in Japan, but it ended soon after anyways as Kingston grabbed a roll up.
A brutal fight of a match up until a potential injury got into the mix. The finish seemed improvised, just a safe way for Kingston to get a win and get Archer looked at. Scary stuff, and shows that someone like Archer going high risk might not be worthwhile. Match Rating: 2.5/5 (** 1/2)
After the bell, the doctor and ring crew would check on Lance Archer. The finish puts Kingston in against Danielson next Friday on AEW Rampage, which should be incredible.Who will move to the finals? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
