When it comes to the AEW World Women’s Championship, Britt Baker is ready to take down anyone who tries to take it from her. However tonight? That won’t be the case. Abadon is someone that anyone smart in AEW would avoid, but tonight Baker meets her in a hardcore match with Abadon set to gain a title shot should she take down the good doctor.
Ahead of the match, Mark Henry looked for words from both people in the match. He asked Abadon if she had tricks up her sleeves, and she drooled out some blood. No comment I suppose. Baker reminds everyone she’s the best hardcore wrestler to use the Mandible Claw after her Lights Out classic with Thunder Rosa. Abandon would vanish, and no one knows where she went – presumably headed to the ring.
Britt Baker Once Again Proves She’s A Hardcore Icon
Baker would be flanked by her zombies, Jaime Hater & Rebel for this Halloween special match. Abadon however is perhaps a real zombie, and even Baker is a bit intimidated as she crawls to the ring. Not to mention she is 16-1 in 2021, she’s dangerous in the ring with rules – now she has the champion in the ring for a no disqualification match.
A screech sent Baker running into her corner, who would hype up herself and walk right into a Stunner. Hayter & Rebel suggested grabbing some weapons, pulling out a table while Baker got some chairs. We’d go to the final commercial break of the night, and when we came back we’d see Abadon nail a running senton onto a steel chair which she had thrown onto the chest of Baker.
Baker nailed some strikes before hitting a flatliner to send Abadon into a steel chair face first. The table was set up at ringside, but a swinging neckbreaker from Baker to Abadon saw it refuse to break. A follow up suplex didn’t do it either, and Abadon shot up like the Zombie she is.
Abadon grabbed a cloth bag from under the ring, which is generally thumbtacks. They’d be poured onto the mat and Baker was looking like a human pin cushion after a slam, but still kicked out. She was handed a chair and it was thrown at Abadon before it was put around her neck and curbstomped.
Sitting up again, Abadon was fed tacks and hit with a superkick. Lockjaw was all she had, but was scared to apply it. Instead, she’d use a distracted roll up after Rebel got on the apron to get the win. A perfect Halloween Hardcore match.
A fun brawl of a match, covering up the still limited skill set of Abadon with the hardcore ruleset, while giving the Living Dead Girl a main event just ahead of Halloween. It wasn’t a potential classic like the other two matches on this card, but it was damn fun. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
