EC3 – Bill Goldberg Defeating the Fiend was The Day Wrestling Died

To say the WWE botched their booking for Bray Wyatt’s The Fiend is an understatement, and EC3 recently called The Fiend’s loss to Goldberg the day wrestling died for him.

We don’t know about wrestling dying per se, but for us it was a huge turning point for the WWE.

Vince McMahon has taken more than a few well deserved lumps for his mishandling of Wyatt’s characters. Seth Rollins told Steve Austin on Broken Skulls Sessions recently that he wanted to strangle McMahon after the HIAC abomination.

Then when the character looked like they were rebuilding him they had Goldberg come in to conquer the villain in a squash match and be the hero.

The fact Wyatt was more over than anyone should’ve led to a different outcome, and the following Smackdown when the fans soundly booed Goldberg to the point he seemingly developed a twitch while chanting “You both suck!” to him and Roman Reigns should’ve been obvious.

But the WWE edited the video after the airing so now we hear cheers. Just like McMahon wants.

    It goes deeper

While many fans haven’t forgiven the WWE for either transgression, kinda like when he kept trying to replace Hogan despite fans’ support or took months to acknowledge Daniel Bryan was a main eventer when fans didn’t relent, others took it more to heart.

EC3 had a great run in Impact Wrestling, went to the WWE where he was quickly buried and forgotten, then began his Free the Narrative after his release.

He’s worked with several wrestlers and helped them unlock a new character version or to just settle into a place their more comfortable at with Braun Strowman being the latest to work with him.

On an episode of The Wrestling Inc. Daily, EC3 had this to say (special thanks to @theheelera_ for the transcript):

“I remember, I would call this the day wrestling died for me, I wasn’t even there, when he (‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt) just got beat by Goldberg. I’ve watched this man work so hard, and be so unique, and be so creative, and do so many different things, and take it upon himself developing something so special, to have it just thrown away by someone’s decision.”

That pretty much sums up many fans’ reasoning for being furious and/or walking away from the WWE and current product, and after they released Wyatt they began to filter out pro Wyatt chants on live broadcasts.

Jeff Hardy’s recent push after fan backlash is probably a direct result of how they treated Wyatt, and after ignoring fans for years they showed they listened one time.

Was this the day wrestling died, or was it the WWE that died for you? Let us know in the comments below.
