That is according to Royal expert Elizabeth Holmes. Diana led the way in making the Royal family relatable to the public in so many ways. She was praised for the manner in which she undertook charitable causes in order to give back to the community.
And that has followed in Kate and Meghan’s approach to the public. In an interview with Us Weekly, Elizabeth said: “She [Diana] was young, she was gorgeous. She was standing tall and blonde, and she knew how to play to the cameras.
“She was everywhere. You know, she became this, like, global media superstar.” But that was not the only thing that Diana set the trend for. She was known for being outspoken and expressing her views.
This was shown when she got divorced from Prince Charles. Much in the same way, Meghan left the Royals in 2020 after she became horrified by the treatment that she was receiving.
This all played out in her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. Elizabeth added: “She sort of broke the mold and she sort of set the stage for everything that we see, in terms of excitement around royal women today.”
Despite the criticism Meghan may have received, Diana would have been proud of her and Prince Harry’s decision to do what was right for them.
In moving overseas, they have created their own family unit without the pressure of the media constantly hanging over them. In doing so, they have been giving back to their community in their own way.
In a prior interview with Us Weekly, Royal expert Stewart Pearce remarked: “They’re really taking on so much of what her legacy is, to bring liberation to the disenfranchised, the disassociated, the LGBTQ+ community, [the] Black Lives Matter [and] Me Too [movements].”
Diana certainly changed the way the Royal family was viewed. With Kate and Meghan, they have continued that similar trend. Whether that will change the monarchy for the better is anyone’s guess. Time will tell.
