That is according to Royal expert Andrew Morton. While that is a bold statement to say the least, on closer inspection, Andrew does have a point.
He spoke on how Meghan and Diana were very popular when they first entered the Royal family. They were seen as potentially modernising the institution in order to make it more relatable.
However, given that Diana ended up feeling alienated from the monarchy, Andrew feels Meghan is on the same path. In an interview with ‘Good Morning America,’ Andrew said: “Meghan’s gone from ‘Duchess Dazzling’ to ‘Duchess Difficult.
“And both of them were struggling emotionally and mentally to cope with, first of all, being pregnant, but also with life inside this goldfish bowl of the Royal Family.”
Although Andrew does stress the similarities, he has suggested that Harry has the greater influence in the relationship. This is an intriguing point, as Meghan has been the one targeted in the UK media for breaking up the Royal family.
In this way, it looks as though Meghan has been singled out as an easy target. Andrew added: “Meghan Markle is blamed for Harry coming to Hollywood.
“When ironically, it was Harry who was very keen to do an interview with Oprah. So she has deferred to him and often got the blame for things that have gone wrong.”
Regardless of what Meghan decides to do, there are always critics on hand to call her out. Take, for example, her request for paid maternity for all American workers.
This request was made through a letter Meghan had written to the speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi. However, Meghan was slammed by claims that she was interfering in US politics.
She simply cannot get a break, and that is something that Andrew does sympathise with. He continued: “Sadly for Meghan, there’s a narrative that’s built up that’s wholly negative towards her.”
