Never one to let an opportunity to insult an entire nation slide, Conor McGregor took to Twitter recently to embark on a war of words with Ali Abdelaziz.
When Khabib Nurmagomedov, Conor McGregor’s arch-rival, was competing in the UFC, Ali Abdelaziz was his manager. Accordingly, McGregor and Abdelaziz have engaged in verbal sparring several times before.
McGregor to Ali Abdelaziz: “When you die, I celebrate”
First, McGregor insulted Khabib. “Bastrykin! Where is Khabib’s “sh*t in his pants medal” ? He need this for shit his pants 10 rows back,” he Tweeted.
Then Abdelaziz entered the fray, reprimanding Conor’s drinking. “You’re drinking again boy he take your soul but never give it back Punk b*tch”
Abdelaziz, of course, was referencing Khabib Nurmagomedov’s victory over McGregor back in 2018. After a lengthy lead-up, the fight ended when Khabib submitted McGregor via rear naked choke. After the fight, the arena erupted into violence as various members of both fighters’ entourages entered the Octagon to brawl.
Abdelaziz continued, admonishing Conor McGregor for insulting people’s religion and family. “Here we go again insulting people nation and religion this is not funny my dream to see you in person.”
McGregor’s response was swift and brutal. “I hate you bro. When you die I celebrate” McGregor has since deleted his Tweets.
This tweet-and-delete fest is only the most recent in a series of social media tirades from the Irish MMA superstar. McGregor’s fall from grace arguably began with his loss to Khabib, as he has won only once since, a knockout victory over Cowboy Cerrone.
This year alone, McGregor has lost to Dustin Poirier twice. In the second fight, Conor broke his leg, and appears to be using his downtime to insult anybody and everybody he can.
Abdelaziz, unlike Conor and Khabib, remains active in the MMA world. He manages some of the sport’s highest-profile stars, including Justin Gaethje, Kamaru Usman, and Henry Cejudo.
McGregor claims that he will return to competition as soon as his broken leg is healed, but the injury won’t be fully healed until 2022 at the earliest. McGregor’s recent run of lackluster results may well discourage the former two-division champion from returning to the UFC.
Many have speculated that McGregor’s focus has shifted from fighting to his other business interests, such as Proper 12 whiskey and TIDL sport spray.
Regardless, Conor McGregor will probably continue to speak his mind and run his mouth (or fingers on a keyboard) for the foreseeable future.
