Matt Hardy was one of the most exciting signings of the time when he signed with the company. It felt like we would get Matt Hardy’s Broken gimmick but on a whole new level. The gimmick spread across the indies and Impact Wrestling and pushed Matt Hardy to new heights. We did at one point get a hint of something exciting with Matt Hardy but then kind of went downhill as soon as we got Big Money Matt and the HFO being one of the worst factions in AEW. We ask the question: what is next for Matt Hardy?
Return of an old gimmick
Matt Hardy has so many different gimmicks, some better than others, but the return of his Broken gimmick could also be on the cards. The reason why the Broken gimmick didn’t work at the beginning when he debuted was mostly due to the fact there were no fans. Knowing that the fans are back, it’s possible to bring back the very popular Broken gimmick.
It’s possible that the feud with Orange Cassidy may bring out another gimmick. It will most likely end with him getting his head shaved. It’s also possible that Matt changes after the ladder match. But there is a lot of possibilities that they are waiting for another Hardy boy to join AEW.
Waiting for Jeff Hardy
It is also possible that AEW is just waiting for Jeff Hardy’s contract to run out and join his brother to form the Hardy Brothers again. Jeff wants to return his Willow gimmick, and he could do that alongside his brother as he has done in the past. Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy can easily have some great single runs left in their career. But it’s possible both are holding out for the return of the Hardy Boys for one last run.
