Kyle O’Reilly has a hard time trusting anyone after the fallout of The Undisputed Era broke him. However, Von Wagner has saved him from Pete Dunne & Ridge Holland twice now. Tonight, O’Reilly teams with Von Wagner to take on the dangerous duo of brits – for potentially the final time as Holland is due to move to Smackdown Live very soon. Can O’Reilly get his revenge?
Can Kyle O’Reilly Trust Von Wagner?
O’Reilly & Von Wagner aren’t the weirdest duo in NXT history, but they do give off some Enzo & Cass vibes with the height difference. Dunne would start alongside Wagner, and get beaten into the corner by the heavyweight. A double wrist lock would be attempted by Dunne, before Wagner turned it into a suplex to set up a running headbutt.
The moment Wagner was in trouble, O’Reilly tagged in alongside Ridge Holland. Holland would power O’Reilly down and hit a knee strike. O’Reilly went after the arm and took an elbow to the face and a suplex. Commentary discussed that O’Reilly has had a rough 15 months of big losses. Dunne was next, and would stomp the knees of O’Reilly into the mat.
Holland was ensuring O’Reilly would stay down, while Dunne picked the bones as needed. It’s a solid strategy, and keeps Wagner out of the fight. A cheap shot caught Wagner, but O’Reilly with two dragon screw leg whips took the fight to the opponents. Wagner would finally get a tag, and clashed with fellow heavyweight Holland, taking him out of the ring for a brawl as we went to commercial break.
Ridge Holland Falls
Back from the break, Holland had a shoulder claw on O’Reilly, while the crowd chanted “You don’t go here!” in regards to his drafted status. We’d even hear a dueling “We Won’t Wagner – No We Don’t” chant, so the crowd has the Roman Reigns stance on him already. Wagner would help O’Reilly get in control, but was sent to the outside and not there for a tag.
O’Reilly had the fingers stomped, but grabbed an ankle lock. Dunne got free with a tag, and Holland smashed O’Reilly down. On the outside, Wagner made the save and went after Holland with a big jumping knee and an angle slam. He’s showing the skills that made him a threat in the NXT Championship Fatal Four Way match.
O’Reilly hit a diving knee off the apron to Dunne, and Wagner pinned Holland in the ring with the Drillbit. It seems they can trust each other, and this odd couple tag team might work in the long run.
A solid tag team match, as expected with Dunne & O’Reilly there to do the groundwork and Holland & Wagner to crash into each other. A good match length on NXT 2.0 twice in one night is a good sign. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
