CM Punk is not going to sit on the sidelines while AEW heads to Chicago. He just needed an opponent, and QT Marshall would call Punk out, and give him a reason to have a match. It’s a home game for Punk, and he might have had some of his biggest losses in Chicago, but also some of his biggest wins. Which will tonight bring?
CM Punk Doesn’t Get To Wrestle QT Marshall – Thanks MJF!
Well firstly a huge reaction from the crowd, drowning out Justin Roberts ring introduction. However, instead of QT Marshall coming out next it was MJF’s music cutting off Cult of Personality. Asshole chants rained down on MJF, who just had a smug look on his face. He’d comment how it’s not fun to be cut off, and MJF had his feelings hurt last week when Punk denied his handshake.
AEW Dynamite Results: CM Punk Destroys MJF On The Microphone, and QT Marshall In The Ring (11/24)
MJF would try to provoke Punk, saying The Pipebomb was an average promo for MJF. He’d claim to not be a one trick pony like Punk and that no one straight edge has ever looked more like a meth addict. MJF would keep talking, while Punk seemed to just listen and nod. He wasn’t taking the bait, even when his UFC career was brought up.
Finally Punk would grab a microphone, and just say he’s disappointed in MJF. He thanked MJF for introducing himself, but he didn’t know his name was Maxwell – he felt MJF stood for My Jealous Fan. CM Punk didn’t mention Punk in interviews because he doesn’t want to feed into his ego, and last week he left MJF speechless without saying a word – something no one has ever done.
MJF had a week to come up with material, but took the lowest hanging fruits – meanwhile Punk called him a less famous Miz, which really cuts deep. This was almost what MJF wanted from Punk, which sums up his AEW career. Punk is nothing but nostalgia, and yeah he was a fan.
He was the best, or so MJF thought, he struggled to beat everyone or say anything interesting. MJF would mock the robotic promos and said he’s just been kissing ass – instead of kicking it. The renegade is gone, and Punk might as well be preaching Hustle, Loyalty and Respect.
Punk wanted to fix wrestling, but sat on his couch for seven years. He made comic books no one read, and movies no one watched – while men like MJF took the world by storm. Back in WWE, he wanted to be the top guy but couldn’t get there. In AEW he’s got the chance – but can he take it? All through this Punk doesn’t show anger, but after being told all his struggles he’s been second best showed something. Cena & Triple H stood above him, and now MJF will do the same. Finally, MJF is better than him – and Punk knows it.
Punk acknowledges there was some truth, but Punk sold out MSG while MJF was marking out for Rosie O’Donnell. MJF talks too much, and can’t back up shit without backup unlike Punk. He came to AEW to face the best, so he went for the heart of AEW – and beat Darby Allin clean.
MJF is so occupied with being part of the Four Pillars, when he’s been replaced there by Britt Baker. The only way MJF will be number one is if Khan has a daughter that he can marry. The second Punk looked ready to throw hands, MJF hit the road – as expected.
QT Marshall Got More Than He Bargained For
Finally he’d get to wrestle QT Marshall, a good warm up for MJF as he too needs help to get wins. Aaron Solo would try to trip Punk up, but Marshall still took three scoop slams. Comoroto would then get caught grabbing ankles, leaving QT all alone in Chicago with Punk. Another bodyslam would come, but he’d shoot back with a knee strike.
Punk came right back with some downward punches before tossing him across the ring. Marshall would be able to grab a neck crank, and commentary discussed the style of Punk. He’s not as explosive as he once was, and Punk was always a wrestlers wrestler – heavy on technical wrestling and striking. Nothing has changed, just the image of Punk isn’t what you get. However, he can take some risks, as shown with a diving lariat off the apron.
Marshall took some control back in the ring with a big knee strike before nailing a vertical suplex and leg drop for a two count. A pop up punch and Liger bomb would get a two count, before having his clock cleaned with a roundhouse kick. The rising knee in the corner, diving elbow drop, and Punk was ready to put him to sleep. GTS lands, and this one is done.
A very average match from Punk, as expected with QT Marshall to work off of. It was boosted by a Chicago crowd, but was not a notable match otherwise. Match Rating: 2.5/5 (** 1/2)
