The Inner Circle have fought many battles during their time in AEW, but this could be the hardest battle ever. They are going to take on two legit MMA fighters in Junior Dos Santos & Andrei Arlovski, The Men of The Year, and Dan Lambert in a Minneapolis Street Fight. Dan Lambert & his men got the last laugh before the show – as Lambert helped to put Jericho through a table and in the Walls of Jericho. Now, they have a pissed on Inner Circle in a match with no rules – and this one could get messy.
Why Does A Street Fight Need Tags, Then Suddenly Not?
Guevara & Sky would start this match, which is just in the ring like a normal ten man tag. You’d think a Street Fight would be tornado rules, but Guevara almost ended it with an arm drag. Santana & Ortiz would isolate Sky as the crowd chanted for what was advertised – a street fight. Hager hit a suplex, and was met by Arlovski. They’d trade blows before Hager went for an ankle lock.
Junior Dos Santos would be met by Chris Jericho, and hit a suplex and standing moonsault press! Dan Lambert tagged in, and things broke down into a fight! The crowd liked this before it stopped. Lambert had five members of Inner Circle behind him, but Page nailed Jericho with a hockey stick as Lambert was chased. A brawl broke out on the outside, and Jake Hager would jump onto the pile.
Dan Lambert had a steel pipe, but Jericho had a Prince logo and beat Sky up with it. A big Purple Rain chant broke out, and Andrei Arlovski was hit with a toaster. In the ring, Page got a trash can over his head, and was beaten with Hockey Sticks. Sky & Page were tied up with submissions and Guevara threw a football.
UFC Fighter Andrei Arlovski Gets Beat Up With A Toaster
Arlovski would hit a stinger splash, and Jericho was in with a waterski. Lambert pulled Jericho outside of the ring, while Guevara hit a huge senton in the ring for two. Hager would use a bundt cake pan, and Junior Dos Santos wanted to dive outside the ring but took a double suplex. Jericho & Guevara set up a ladder, and Sky was crushed through a table.
Page hit an Ego’s Edge onto the floor, but took an Iron Claw from Baron Von Rashake – who was in attendance. Why the hell not. Jericho had Lambert alone in the ring, and was dropped. Jericho went for a Lionsault and yelled for Dos Santos to get his punch in, before Lambert went for the Walls Of Lambert. Lambert got a kendo stick shot to the face, and having learned from Nick Gage – used a stapler. Thinking about Eddie Guerrero, Jericho hit a huge frog splash and this one was over.
After the Street Fight, Tony Shciavone would have an announcement. Jay Lethal would announced as joining the AEW roster. He was last in Ring of Honor, but was at the proto-AEW event – All In. He is all Elite. On Dynamite, he will challenge Sammy Guevara for the TNT Championship this Wednesday! What a way to kick things off in AEW.
Confusion over the rules of an AEW Street Fight and the lack of fan interest in this angle, it was a star studded mess of a fight. You had UFC fighters hitting moonsaults and being battered with toasters. How can you truly hate that? Less of a match and more of a fun but messy angle. In another time, this would have been pretaped and cinematic, like Stadium Stampede.
One year ago, Hangman Page couldn’t beat Kenny Omega. He failed to win the AEW World Championship Eliminator Tournament. This was just another failure, and it also came around the time he was kicked out of the Elite. Since then, Page has gotten back to the top of the mountain, has friends he can rely on, and a shot at Kenny Omega & The AEW World Championship. Tonight he will see if he is worthy of becoming the AEW World Champion.
One of the biggest pops in AEW history came for Hangman Page hitting the ramp. The energy was unreal, the timing feels perfect. It’s the biggest match of his career, both professionally and emotionally. However, he needs to beat The Best Bout Machine – and that’s not easy to do. Omega simply came out to Battle Cry with Don Callis. No big entrance needed, he’s the champion – and perhaps the best goddamn wrestler in the world.
A contract signed in blood, broken friendships, 228 Day reign as AEW World Tag Team Champions, and a lot of cowboy shit. This is the end of the biggest storyline AEW has ever told, and the time for talk is over.
Omega & Page Play The Hits To Get The Crowd To A Fever Pitch…
Page & Omega would lock up, but a stalemate would ensue. Instead they’d trade chops and Page ran Omega down with a shoulder tackle. Big lariat in the corner would rock Omega, before he’d make the comeback and choke Page with a boot. Omega distracted the referee as Callis choked Page on the ropes. Page fired back by sending Omega to the apron, nailing a springboard lariat and a vaulting body press.
Omega took a vertical suplex on the floor, before getting a one count in the ring. He’d dunk Page into the match with a reverse bulldog, also getting a one count. Page would throw some heavy forearm shots, but was sent outside for Callis to stomp Page out. If Omega wins, Callis could die in the ensuing riot. Page would have his face attacked by the steel steps, which we saw the danger of Punk & Kingston.
Omega would nail the terminator dive to the outside, crashing onto Page after soaring over the top rope. Back in the ring it was the rolling fireman carry into the moonsault, but Page blocked with a mule kick from the mat to the midsection. Page would nail the Fallaway Slam, and kip up before a dive to the outside, and followed up with the moonsault off the top rope to the floor.
The Destiny Is Fulfilled
Omega would be brought up for a superplex, but slipped out for a Springboard Sunset Powerbomb. Snap Dragon was nailed, and everything was looking right for Omega. The second would come on the apron, and a V-Trigger landed in the ring. One Winged Angel was set but Page countered into a Victory Roll. Page nailed a release German Suplex but Omega blocked Deadeye with Tiger Driver ‘98.
Omega went up top, but was tripped up by Hangman before a blockbuster off the top for a two count. Page would stand on the ringpost, and dive out of the ring to drive Omega through a table with a lariat. Omega was staggering in the ring, which saved him from the Buckshot Lariat. Page would instead look for a V-Trigger, which Omega dodged. German was blocked, rolling elbow landed, and Page nailed a pop up powerbomb.
Page would launch the buckshot but got the referee instead. Don Callis tried to use the belt, but was punched out. Omega would look to use it as well, but missed. Deadeye landed, but Aubrey Edwards would ready the ring a second short for the three count. Omega would fight to his feet, before nailing a heavy knee strike to Page.
V-Trigger was blocked, and Page a rolling elbow before another big knee strike. Kawada Kicks would land, but Page was right back up with a Burning Lariat. The Young Bucks came to the ringside area, but Page nailed a backdrop driver. Buckshot was coming but a V-Trigger landed. One Winged Angel would land… but after Page countered and hit his own version. Nick Jackson was in position to block the Buckshot and didn’t. It hit the back of Omega’s head, and Matt would nod before Omega was taken down for the three count.
An absolute epic of a match, fitting of the story leading into it. They threw everything at each other, Don Callis failed to ruin things, and The Young Bucks saw an old friend become champion. This couldn’t have went better, and the pop when Page pinned Omega was deafening. It’s moments like this that make pro wrestling amazing. Match Rating: 4.5/5 (**** 1/2)
After the match, Page hugged it out with Dark Order. Did you think he’d be able to do it? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
