One of the best parts about All Elite Wrestling is that they are able to not just solely focus on PPV events for their big shows. Grand Slam in Arthur Ashe stadium is a perfect example of this, as they had their biggest crowd to date – and it was an episode of Dynamite. They let Kenny Omega & Bryan Danielson happen on TV, for all to see. While we are presently on the build to Full Gear – another big TV special is in the works, set for January 8th.
AEW: Battle Of The Belts Incoming For a Saturday Night Event?
January 8th is not going to be on a Wednesday, but rather a Saturday. AEW has commonly run Dynamite on Saturday however, making this not a big shocker. January is also generally a time AEW likes to pull out big shows, as a new year means new rankings and fun. A while back, they would apply for a trademark of “Battle Of The Belts” which is now rumored to be the title of this event, as per Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Podcast.
The name alone brings one big potential match to mind, seeing the TNT & AEW Champions clash in an exhibition style match. Right now this would mean Sammy Guevara vs. Kenny Omega, but either of those belts could very likely change hands between now and January. Omega presently has Hangman Page as a challenger for Full Gear, and either Bryan Danielson, Orange Cassidy or Jon Moxley close behind.
AEW Can Throw Together Star Studded Shows With Ease
AEW have the roster and booking abilities to always deliver a fantastic show, so even a show filled from top to bottom with all four of their championships being defended would be great. It clashes date wise with the third planned night of Wrestle Kingdom, meaning we can’t expect any NJPW talent to be on board for it.
However, there’s any number of big matches that can be built up or even thrown together ahead of the show. What matches would you want to see from AEW: Battle Of The Belts? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
