When Bryan Danielson showed up in AEW, he had one thing on his mind – a match with Kenny Omega himself. He doesn’t want the AEW World Championship, he’s not even close to being ranked due to not wrestling for AEW before now. However, it was never about gold. It was about proving who was the best in the world, and testing if Kenny Omega truly is the Best Bout Machine.
Enter The American Dragon
This match would kick off the show for the 20k fans in attendance. Both men got huge reactions, even though Kenny Omega brought Don Callis with him. Jim Ross would let us know it has a thirty minute time limit, ten more than a typical AEW non-title match. Bryan looked like a kid in a candy store hearing the bell ring, before soaking the moment in.
They’d lock up, and Omega would overpower Bryan, and didn’t allow a clean break. Bryan won the next lock up before a mid-kick which dropped Omega. Omega would be taken down with an armbar, before trying to out wrestle the American Dragon – and grabbing the ropes instead before a hard kick across the abdomen.
Bryan took a shoulder tackle and a heavy knife edge chop, which sent him into the corner. They’d initiate a greco roman knuckle lock in the middle of the ring and Omega would be taken down to the mat and have the elbow stomped. Omega retreated to the corner where Bryan uncorked some of his signature kicks before sending Omega to the outside.
Bryan would hit the ropes and nail a Suicide Dive, sending Omega crashing into the security railing. Back in the ring, Omega took a knee drop to the arm, and that limb was getting nice and tender, exactly what is needed for the LeBell Lock. Bryan was controlling the pace of the match, but Omega grabbed at the face to get some space, before some more chops. The chest of Bryan was red from all these chops, and more would come.
The Best Bout Machine Is Here Tonight
Bryan would try to fire up before taking a knee to the midsection, sending him rolling before taking a kick to the spine. Omega would resort to a Thumb to the Eye before the Rolling Fireman Carry. Bryan countered the moonsault with his knees, and he’d fire up for some more chops and midkicks in the corner.
He’d go up and over in the corner before the running hammer shot took Omega down. The running dropkick landed, and Omega was put on the top rope for a super hurricarana, getting a two count. Omega would hit a hurricarana of his own, spiking the head of Bryan on the mat and sending him outside for the Terminator dive!
Bryan would counter Blue Shadow and would go for Cattle Mutilation in the middle of the ring. Back in ROH, Omega would tap out to this hold, but this time around he got the ropes and to the outside, where Bryan came off the top rope with a knee strike. Some mid-kicks to a kneeling Omega would be countered into a Snap Dragon on the ramp.
Omega would run down the ramp for one of the hardest V-Triggers we’ve ever seen, with the impact sending him into the ring. Bryan was kicked down to the floor, and could have been out. Omega would come to the outside as Bryan collapsed, and seemed keen to end this one for good. He’d throw him onto the timekeepers table, before grabbing a drink and getting into the ring.
Kenny Omega & Bryan Danielson Are Unstoppable
Back in the ring, Omega would buckle bomb Bryan and send him over the top rope. Bryan got in and took the Tiger Mask Missile Dropkick, before another SnapDragon was set up. A roll up got a two count from Bryan, before Omega hit a spinning wheel kick and a V-Trigger into the corner.
Omega was looking for the Avalanche Dragon Suplex, but Bryan countered out and got the Avalanche Backdrop. Bryan was looking beat up by this point, and so was Omega. They’d trade jabs before Omega lookied for a V-Trigger and got a Rolling Elbow instead, which set up the RegalPlex for a two count.
Omega would try again for the Avalanche Dragon Suplex, and got it this time. Somehow, Bryan kicked out and no one could believe it. Omega would signal for a V-Trigger, and it landed, and ONe Winged Angel would have been next – but Bryan countered into a Poisoned Frankensteiner. A buzzsaw kick would set up the running knee, but Omega countered into a powerbomb before a V-Trigger for a two count.
Omega would go for the Phoneix Splash, and somewhere Kota Ibushi smiled – but Omega missed and was cut down by strikes. Bryan stomped his head in and went for the LeBell lock as we reached the one minute countdown. Omega would take a rolling elbow, and Bryan took a knee strike. They’d throw desperate strikes as time ran out, and they’d keep fighting. Bryan applied the LeBell lock, and The Elite made the save.
This match was just about everything an AEW fan could have asked for. Omega & Danielson are truly special, once in a lifetime talents and they showed that in this intense back and forth war. They’re big match wrestlers, and tonight was one of the biggest AEW ever had. The crowd was red hot, they gave their all, and it was just insane. One of the best matches in Dynamite history -even with it being a draw. Match Rating: 5/5 (*****)
