While Ring of Honor comes to a close for a couple of months, star Jonathan Gresham recently defeated Brody King—recently CM Punk-approved. He also announced a new promotion for 2022.
Jonathan Gresham Announces Terminus
The current number one contender to Bandito’s ROH World title, Gresham dropped a teaser on Twitter. From what was gathered, the new promotion will be called “Terminus” with a possible subtitle of “Modern Age Grappling”.
Terminus is set to debut on January 16 in Atlanta but nothing else has been stated so far. It was a teaser after all. With many indies streaming shows via FITE and other services, it’s possible that Terminus will at least stream its debut show.
This could mean that Terminus is a project that Jonathan Gresham has had on his mind for a while. Starting a wrestling company of any size isn’t exactly something you’d want to conceptualize just a few months before your home company’s hiatus.
Sure, the decision to do it can be made in that time but a whole promotion? Even the name can take a while to create. However, given that the first show will be in the ATL, the name and a Walking Dead reference was a pretty easy lay-up in this case.
Meanwhile, Ring of Honor will be capping off 2021 with ROH Final Battle which will feature Jonathan Gresham facing ROH World Champion Bandito. After December 17, the company will be on a hiatus until April 2022.
During that period, the company will be changing its business approach. According to Dave Meltzer, the company is likely to operate like an indy promotion. This possibly means open, show-to-show contracts for the most part and dialing back its touring range.
