When discussing the best teams of all time the Nasty Boys sometimes pop up. It really depends on what company you’re using for their body of work. Personally, I felt they did their best work in WCW where the tag team scene was girthy and they had plenty of tough teams to tumble with on a regular basis.
Of course, they came to fame in the WWE and had plenty of fun squash matches there as well.
WCW World Tag Team Titles: Nasty Boys (c) vs. Sam Houston & Pez Whatley (WCW Saturday Night 9/28/1993)
There was something about getting a title match on WCW Saturday Night on for the champions to be defending against some jobbers.
The thing is that a few years earlier in the late 80s, Sam Houston—Jake the Snake’s younger brother—was an up-and-comer who held some regional titles. Here he still looks like an up-and-comer.
Pez Whatley would become enhancement talent by the end of the 1980s but was a strong midcard heel in the NWA. By 1993, none of that mattered as the Nasties pound on them for two minutes straight and put them away with the Trip to Nastyville.
Jobbers Just Jumbled and Jacked Up (WWE Superstars 12/14/1993)
This was your classic “clubberin’ them” for a couple of minutes squash match that seemed to go on for a while. It gave the commentary team plenty of time to discuss other things such as Doink being out there for no actual reason.
The commentary team brings it back to the match towards the end as another Trip to Nastyville puts away the team of Rock Warner and future WCW and WWE referee Mickey Jay.
Slobs Superbly Slaughtered on Saturdays (WCW Worldwide)
This is supposedly from 1994 but I’m only seeing Randy Hogan—who looks like the most discount member of the Hogan family—teaming with PJ Walker (Justin Credible).
It doesn’t matter because these two scrubs got obliterated in what had to be less than two minutes. Knobbs had an awesome, high-impact avalanche splash in the corner.
If this was shot in 3D, he would’ve flown right through the screen! This one ends like all the others: big powerslam, Sags drops the elbow, one-way ticket to Nastyville!
