The current lead of The Bachelorette Michelle Young opened up on how a previous racial remark made her realise that her ex-partner was not being supportive of her.

During the course of her one-on-one date, Michelle informed Rodney Mathews about the whole experience. It turns out that when she was shopping, a woman approached her and said a derogatory racial term.
After becoming upset at what had occurred, Michelle was dejected at what she perceived to be a lack of support from her partner. During the conversation with Rodney, she said: “I was upset and I chose to be upset about it, and I had to justify my emotions.
“I shouldn’t have ever had to justify my feelings.” It is no surprise then that he and Michelle did not last. However, the relationship was critical for her in other ways.
She was in an inter-racial relationship which is something that she is all too aware of, given that her parents did the same. But she did not see that as the reason for things not working out.
Michelle admitted that it is important to have communication and your partner’s back regardless of skin colour. She added: “I’ll also be explaining that [when] the relationship isn’t going to work.
“It doesn’t mean that someone who is white or a different race can’t understand you.” By acting this way, she is hoping to encourage other women who have had problems finding people to settle down with.
She was very frank about how she would never be invited on dates during her teenage years, as well as being one of the last people when it came to high school proms. Nevertheless, these were experiences that made her grow.
She stated: “I made a promise to myself to help empower all hues of Black, white and brown, fighting for opportunities that allow them to blossom from the ground.”
Michelle has come a long way and made history by being one of the few black female leads to grace the franchise. And her journey may inspire others to do the same. But whether she does end up finding happiness is anyone’s guess.
