In the modern landscape of professional wrestling, there are really two powerhouses of companies in the United States. AEW has done what Impact Wrestling and Ring of Honor couldn’t, and that is provide a true alternative to WWE. They are catching up in ratings, tickets sold, and depending on who you ask – have surpassed WWE in terms of quality. One thing they’ve done well is using released WWE talent to great effect having names like Adam Cole instantly become top stars. Now with the latest big batch of WWE releases, AEW owner Tony Khan isn’t denying some names look interesting.
Tony Khan Hates To See People Losing Their Jobs
While speaking with Wade Keller on the newest episode of the Focus on AEW podcast – Tony Khan would discuss the recent roster cuts made by WWE. He was heartbroken by the news, as so many people have once again lost their jobs – saying the following.
“Yeah, every time they cut like 20 people, let’s just say, it’s terrible because every time somebody loses a job it is affecting them, it’s affecting people around them. Some of these people for all I know might’ve wanted to leave, but in general, I think most of these people probably did not. So, it’s terrible when anybody loses their work and I feel for them. So, each and everyone counts.”
Atleast Gran Metalik & Lince Dorado have requested their releases in the batch of 18, with others like Franky Monet, Ember Moon & Scarlett expressing happiness on being able to finally get back to work with WWE letting them go.
Snatching Up Two or Three People Out Of Twenty, Only Names That Could Make AEW Stronger
However, as far as picking up some names from the crowd? Tony Khan isn’t denying some names look very interesting. He would also go ahead and explain the process he takes as far as hiring when WWE gets firing.
“I’m gonna take a ballpark number and I’m not trying to make light of everything because everyone counts. And I know this is probably not the exact amount of people but every time they let, let’s say as a ballpark, 20 people go, I think there’s in general been one, two, three people in there or so that I am interested in and snatch up because they keep doing these mass layoffs. They let, let’s say 20 people go or more or less, and each time I find a few people and the company gets a little stronger and stronger in my opinion. I do see a few in this wave. I don’t wanna say who or when I would be interested in them but there’s a few very interesting people they just let go.”
Who Could Tony Khan Be Considering?
It’s not hard to assume that names like Keith Lee and Ember Moon are on the radar of AEW. Moon would just further improve their women’s division, and is a well respected worker – having done her time in places like Shimmer as Athena. Keith Lee is perhaps a complete all around talent that could have been a main event player in WWE, and could walk into AEW and have limitless potential.
Others who stand out include Gran Metalik & Lince Dorado, two more rock solid luchadors to work alongside fast paced teams like Young Bucks, Lucha Bros and Private Party. Heck, you could stick Dorado with Eddie Kingston, Serpentico & Diamante and have a stable of people you absolutely do not want to mess with.
Others like Karrion Kross & Scarlett, Franky Monet, Mia Yim and Trey Baxter could also be considered. Who would you like to see show up in AEW from the recent releases? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
