There has been a lot of shuffling of this Survivor Series match, pitting the two top brands of WWE against each other. As the dust settles and they prepare, the teams are set. One one side we Austin Theory, Bobby Lashley, Finn Balor, Kevin Owens, & Seth Rollins representing Monday Night RAW. Meanwhile, Smackdown has Drew McIntyre, Happy Corbin, Jeff Hardy, King Woods, & Sheamus. It’s elimination rules, who will be left standing?
Kevin Owens Walks Out On Team RAW
From all the entrances, Kevin Owens, Finn Balor & Jeff Hardy got the loudest reactions from the packed crowd. McIntyre is the clear captain of Smackdown, while Rollins seems like the one leading the charge with RAW. Owens wanted to start the match for RAW, while Woods would start for Smackdown. However, Owens just rolled out and left the match – putting RAW down to four men before action even started.
Rollins was busy being shocked, and McIntyre ran him down. In the ring, Theory would be getting a royal beatdown. A dropkick to the back would be followed up by McIntrye tagging in. McIntyre nailed some heavy chops, before Sheamus was invited to take a shot. Corbin was in next with a heavy punch, but Rollins was able to get the tag. A huge lariat dropped Rollins, but he’d weather the storm and get Balor in to match Sheamus.
Drew McIntyre & Lashley Have Their Own Issues To Settle
Hardy & Sheamus would try to brawl their team back into control, but Balor & Rollins kept things steady with a double slingblade. McIntyre was back up, and ready to meet an old rival once again. One more time, McIntyre & Lashley. Lashley wanted a tag, but there was no one there. A brawl would ensue, and McIntyre was in control before Lashley leapfrogged him and nailed a flatliner. On the outside, Lashley would brawl off into the crowd and got counted out. Three to two, advantage RAW.
With just Hardy & Sheamus left, Smackdown Live still have a chance. McIntyre & Lashley were keen on more fighting, but order was restored… but McIntyre hit a Glasgow Kiss to Rollins and Sheamus took control. Balor would tag in and get a Sunset Flip but Sheamus would rally back for a big powerslam. Slingblade & John-Woo dropkick set up Coup De Grace, but Sheamus dodged and hit Brogue kick. Two to two.
Sheamus & Jeff Hardy vs. Seth Rollins & Austin Theory!
Theory rolled in for a dropkick, but couldn’t take Sheamus down. Rollins & Theory would need to beat down The Celtic Warrior, but Rollins suffered an Irish Curse. Hardy would hit a diving splash for a two count, and alongside Sheamus got some Poetry in Motion. Together, they hit ten beats of the bodhrán, before Sheamus would be distracted by Theory and took a superkick.
Sheamus would fight Theory off to look for a tag but there was no one there and he was rolled up for the pin! Jeff Hardy is all alone, with Theory & Rollins to take down. Sheamus dropped Theory… and then Hardy as well. Rollins would nail a high splash, but only got a two count! Hardy was weathering a helluva storm, but would block a double superplex. Theory landed in position, and Swanton bomb got this one to singles action.
Rollins would know the time was right. He’s in his prime and Jeff is not, but a russian leg sweep and deep pinfall almost showed that doesn’t matter. Rolling elbow landed and got a two count for Rollins. Both men were exhausted, but Twist of Fate landed. Shirt off, flying high – Rollins gets the knees up and blocks the Swanton. Curb Stomp gets the win, and Rollins is the sole survivor!
A high action spotfest which kept the drama high and the strikes stiff. Lots of little stories being picked up on here. Among Survivor Series matches it was standard fare, but the standard there is pretty damn good. The ending stretch of Hardy & Rollins alone makes this one something worth watching again. Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
